The lumbar motor has a very fragile plastic drive wheel. It can strip out if loaded when doing the adjustment.

The controls are up/down forward/back as stated. There is a worm drive and cog that stripped on mine. Replaced under warranty but it involves auto trimmer unpicking and re sowing the back of the seat.

Installing heated seats into a MK6 R - Can it be done?
Hi Everyone,
I've had my MK6 Golf R for about 12 months now and I'm seeing it as a long term investment that I'd like to to upgrade and make more comfortable. The car came with fabric seats but they're getting a bit tatty so I'd like to make the change to leather. The recaros look pretty pricey so I'm after the normal ones.
The leather seats that I've seen for sale are heated, so my question is can I install heated seats into a car that wasn't sold with that feature. There's no button / dial on the console for heated seats so I'm curious to know how the process would work, if it's possible.
If it's not possible, then I suppose my two follow up questions are:
1. Would it even be worth making the change, and;
2. Would there be a market interest to buy second hand fabric seats
Thanks Guys,
Biggless

It is possible to retrofit the heated seats.
Wouldn't be a cheap exercise I wouldn't imagine but certainly not technically too difficult.
Check this guide for general info:
How To: Mk5 Heated Seats Retrofit - page 1 - How to Guides / Troubleshooting - MK5 Golf GTI
This is for the Mk5 Golf so the pinout to the CECM will not apply (there should be info on connection to the newer BCM somewhere but I haven't looked)
There may be a small market for your cloth seats for someone wanting to spruce up a lower model Mk5 or Mk6 particularly at the right price...Last edited by kamold; 15-08-2016, 07:52 AM.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

I did it in my Mk 6 Golf by getting some second hand leather seats (which all have the heating elements in them). The 2007-8 Mk5's had a wiring update so the later Mk 5 is the same as the Mk 6 for wiring and plugs on the seat side (means you could potentially use R32 seats). I also needed the wiring loom which i got from Kufatec (**** instructions) and the switch for the dash (in my case the climatronic unit with heated seat function).
Used leather interior should be about $400 for a standard golf and about $1,000+ for a nice golf R leather interior
wiring loom $100
climatronic switch $50-100
You need to turn the function on with VAGCOM and you'll need the wiring diagrams in the electrical manual i posted a link to in the Manuals forum. It's a pain in the butt to do but I honestly don't know how i lived without it now. Heated seats are amazing.
Retrofitting it into existing seats would be more difficult if you use OEM parts but possibly cheaper if you do the hard work. There are also some after market kits which utilise the buttons near the gear stick.
EDIT: You will have no problem selling your fabric seats. I managed to sell my crappy comfortline seats for $200 because the airbags have value.

Here's a set of Mk 6 GTI leather seats for $800. They look almost identical to the R seats but for the "GTI" label on the head rest. You can't see the peak of the side bolster or the bottom of the front seats where they wear out first but they look in ok condition.

What rear seats will fit in a MK6 R?
Hi guys,
Managed to upgrade my fabric front seats to leather, now I need to find some rear leather ones to match. Can anyone clarify (and please be certain) which seats will fit? Just MK6 models or will MK5 and MK7 fit also.
On a related note, if you know of someone who's selling or where to get them, please let me know.
Thanks

Mk5 and Mk6 are interchangeable as both cars share the same chassis. I doubt the Mk7 seats would bolt in without modifications.
If you already have MK6 leather front seats then you should try to find Mk6 leather rear seats so that they match (the Mk5 seats are a slightly different shape/pattern/design to the Mk6).

Front seats have no power
Hi guys,
Had my car for almost 2 years, MK6 2011 Golf R and around 12 months ago my front seats stopped working after a service. Both sides, lumbar and heating. I had my mechanic check all the fuses last visit but he found no fault.
Anyone have any idea where I should look next?
Thanks!
