Fair point, I only looked cos I saw your "moved" topic.

Don't remember where I posted it but a couple times I've had it bounce off the limiter for a second or 2 going from 1st to 2nd. From memory it happened at the same time as being full lock turning so traction control might have been trying to step in and everything getting a bit confused.

Haven't seen anything like what you have Rex and I've been driving the car pretty hard now. Done about 2500kms and it feels like its all loosening up nicely.

Not at this stage, cause this is really the only actual "DSG problem" at the moment (anything else seems to be just new VW owner's unfamiliarity with the box or people not liking the eco-ness of the D mode). So if there is enough conversation to keep the topic on the 1st page, people will look...

Let us know what the service guys say. I would really be interested in whether it has been reported up the chain to VW and whether there will be a DSG software update or something coming...

For those that missed it, I was traveling very slowly over a speed hump, as I finished the short descent from the ramp bit, I went to press half throttle and it just redlined on me. I backed off the accelerator and let the revs drop, and then once the revs dropped low enough the DSG grabbed a gear and I was good.

Well, unfortunately today, I went through a roundabout and as I drove out of it, I went to accelerate and it redlined again.. so I let the revs drop I went to accelerate and it redlined again.. I let the revs drop again, I went to accelerate and it redlined again.. This time though it wasn't just a quick snap to redline.. It was about half the speed, and felt like a loose slip of the gears.

4 times all up today, and then finally, it went into gear.

I hate to say it but it might be time for a service center visit. I don't feel like I could lend my car to anyone close to me at the moment.

Still loving my car, anyone else have any further experiences?
that is not normal and i don't know if it's 'slippage'. were you in manual or d and did you get to see what gears you were in? does it happen if you creep slowly up a hill and then accelerate?

        • Just typed "DSG Slipping" Into Google, and there seems to be threads from all sorts of VW Fanboy forums. Seems like a common issue here and there. Be interesting to see what the cause is.

          • probably the usual 98% driver error and 2% genuine problem conflated into a gigantic internet sh*t pie. hesitation, jerkiness, a demented desire to slam my car into trees etc. all phenomena i'm yet to encounter over 2 dsg boxes and heaps of test drives over 4 years.

But to be honest when I think of "DSG prob's, likes, dislikes" I think it's a thread for people to talk about the characteristics of the transmission, mostly when it's working. For things such as not liking the shift points on D or S for example.

A few people, including yourself have noted this missed gear thing. It's an issue. And it seems to be "allowed" for discussion on other forums, so why not i say.

35 pages later of a million different things..

98% Driver error? in an auto? I have driven a manual stripped out EVO a dirt track without much issues doing sideways bends at 110km/h. My friend, in an auto - at 25km/h, there is no driver error LMAO at this guy.. Cmon really?

the couple of times the Black has missed or slipped gears, I certainly was not the cause. Happened this morning again, would describe as a slip in first gear, car revs higher but doesn't go. I immediately took foot of accelerator, reapplied and off I went. In D....

Hey, maybe it's just a characteristic?

I'll have to see when I have a spare day to get it fixed.. Mine did it coming out of a round-about. 4 times in a row before it finally went back into gear.

I believe your term 'characteristic' would best describe. I'm not fussed as the total DSG experience for me has been very good. I am a convert and love the system.

Yeh me too. Love the option to stay sporty and get an auto for Sydney driving.

Let's just hope it doesn't do it when we need it !

                      • Rex, in first gear in S mode, at very low speed, do you feel 'clutch bounce'. I'm sure there is a more technical name for it... once again, not a concern really.

But just think for a second.. when you mentioned the 2% of people problems are actual problems..

neither the timing of the statement, nor the accuracy of it where legitimate.

Not sure who is cooking the internet pie you refer too..

I will check it out asap (when i get a day off)

you're right it's probably lower than that given the lack of lawsuits. i made no suggestion that it was an accurate number. maybe you're a bit sensitive to anything that could imply it's not a real problem. intermitent nagging issues can make you feel like that.

that's a good idea, in the mean time write down what you think the problem is and how you identify it, concisely put down what the car is doing that you feel is the problem with as much info as you can so that they'll sort you out. stay calm whatever they do.
