  • The computer can't "see" and "anticipate" hills and corners like we can, so as you slow down it wouldn't know if you're going to stop, speed up again, and/or turn, etc. Unfortunately pressing the ESP button doesn't help (lame joke).
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

I could kill a couple of birds with a single stone, get the Milltek exhaust (in Black) done at the same time!!!

            I reckon do it!!!

I eventually plan to have the ECU, Exhaust/Downpipe, Intercooler & Fuel pump done.....once the engagement ring is sorted and I sign my life away

But to stay on topic, it would be interesting to hear someones experience with a DSG tune?.....anyone??

            • hmmm I'm curious about this comment on their site
"The DSG computer will no longer initiate steps to shed engine torque when the factory 350nm limit is reached"

I thought that was an old wives tale??? Even a mild ecu reflash on an R would exceed 350nm I'd expect so a dsg retune would almost be a neccessity?

              • Not all ECU tunes work around the DSG torque limit. Or at least not all used to.

                • Seems like HPA Motorsports Inc. - DSG Performance Programming raise and answers the DSG questions...they'd probably solve the ESP problem too.
Bet Guy's DSG R doesn't keep the OEM software???

                  • The APR ECU's don't need the DSG ECU, even with Stage 3. I know that in the USA their Stage 4 cars have a DSG flash, but that's because they've got engine internal changes and need the rev limits and shifting points changed.

Having said that - I do hope that Guy does play around with the DSG with his new R!

...my interest is more about driver control than coping with increased power...but if 'you' need the clutch pressure because of power then lucky you.

Good question, I haven't really looked into it as I'm a manual guy, but having driven an R DSG I concur with some of the concerns. I only know of two guys with the DSG flash, but they're MKV's. Phone up City & ask some questions.

                        • DSG - Gearbox Slipping Sometimes

So I explained in the DSG thread, my situation about my, at the time, first occurrence of DSG slippage.

For those that missed it, I was traveling very slowly over a speed hump, as I finished the short descent from the ramp bit, I went to press half throttle and it just redlined on me. I backed off the accelerator and let the revs drop, and then once the revs dropped low enough the DSG grabbed a gear and I was good.

Well, unfortunately today, I went through a roundabout and as I drove out of it, I went to accelerate and it redlined again.. so I let the revs drop I went to accelerate and it redlined again.. I let the revs drop again, I went to accelerate and it redlined again.. This time though it wasn't just a quick snap to redline.. It was about half the speed, and felt like a loose slip of the gears.

4 times all up today, and then finally, it went into gear.

I hate to say it but it might be time for a service center visit. I don't feel like I could lend my car to anyone close to me at the moment.

Still loving my car, anyone else have any further experiences?

                          • I've only had it happen the once (as per my previous post a few pages back)

I think that when it happens you need to wait until it has changed gear before accelerating again. So by accelerating and taking it to the redline it was staying in this "fail safe" mode or whatever the reason this new "idiosyncrasy" has appeared for. That is at least how I remember it when it happened for me.

In one of the threads that this was mentioned, someone said that they had reported it to their service centre and they were told that VW are aware of the problem. But since you've had this happen several times, I'd give them a call and discuss it.

                            • Hey Corey you reckon maybe time for a separate thread just for the slipping of the DSG? Not sure if the GTI has copped it as well?

But this DSG thread is for absolutely anything likes etc, and at 35 pages I feel my problem might get left a bit behind.

                              • I've had slippage a couple of times. haven't been concerned because it feels exactly like a miss gear in manuel tranny. I don't hear any gears crunching or heavy metal on metal thuds. Besides its fully covered with my 5 year warranty.
