Great news, big_e, at least u have clue your ride arrival. how did the VWA lady contact u? by phone or email? u already knew the build week, right?

well i got an email 4 weeks ago saying that my car will enter production soon.
So i rang today and see if it actually is... and i was told yes it is already in production.

You can call VWA and ask for a scheduled production date... if you have a set week then it should be close to production...if not then you might be looking at 4 weeks + till production.

Called VWA last week, and told wait another few weeks for update. But i will try to call VWA again today see any luck here. About your VIN, i do believe u will have it once the car build and off the production link. Maybe u can check up with VWA one or two week later. and for another 10 days later, u should tracking your car on the boat along with the site ppl always mention to.

I dont think neither one of us will get our R this year... I have already given up hoping I will getting the car this year...

nah, U may have luck to get ur car within this year, depend on the speed of transfer, but next Jan should be more realistic

Ok... my Golf R has finally entered production...

I was wondering how long does production takes before I can get a VIN number?

The lady at VWA told me production takes 6-8 weeks.
10 weeks on the ship.
and 2 weeks at Australian customs

if the is true then I am still 20 weeks away.. that is like 5 months!!!
Is that correct or is she being overly conservative?

She could be being conservative. My car is not delivered yet, but I can tell you what my experience has been so far.

15-06-2011 - Ordered vehicle from South Yarra VW (VIC)
15-08-2011 - Dealer lets me know that vehicle will be built in week 36 (Mid sept I think)
12-09-2011 - Letter from Volkswagen Australia with VIN number and Commission Number (Missing)
16-09-2011 - Car loaded on ship (Tortugas) and departs Bremerhaven
20-09-2011 - Another Letter from Volkswagen Australia with missing Commission Number
27-09-2011 - Dealer informs me that vehicle has been shipped, will arrive in Melbourne on the 24th and will available 2 weeks later.
~ Future Dates follow
24-10-2011 - Tortugas expected to make port in Melbourne
07-11-2011 - The Dealer-quoted date when car should be available for delivery.

I could have just lucked out with ordering the right thing at the right time, and it got built conveniently close to a matching shipping voyage. (I'm not sure how often Wallenius cruise out to Aus,) From Bremerhaven to Melbourne at a quick guestimate will have been 6 weeks. (Whether the same route is used, I couldn't say.)

It sounds like yours is underway, big_e so you may get lucky and get it before the year is out.

Thanks for your input, mate. U will make big_e feels a bit easier about your story. Ya, you just got a fantastic order and delivery's time frame which shorter than us. I hope I can get any good news from either dealer or VWA about my car soon.

5 month wait seems abit optimistic. The average is 9 months. if lucky maybe 6.
You need to get the vin number to be a bit more certain on when you might actually get it.
Before that it is like waiting in an endless queue.

just got a call from chatswood VW... delivery booked in for 9am next wednesday

11 days from order til delivery - the car was built 1/4/2011 (it better not be an april fool's special) and has been floating around melb/syd unwanted for a couple of months. ahh the advantages of not wanting leather

I received an email from VW Team last week. They said my R will go into production next week and expected to be delivered in Jan.

I wonder why you guys have to wait that long and did you get an email or call from VW? So far I've received 2 phone calls. Makes me feel like I've bought a Ferrari and they kept me updated.

Feel luck for u, Big_e and me ordered from same dealer but don't why both of us wait that long. coz i checked for order info about the R's buyer from this dealer before(checked from this post), all of them can received around 6 mths. Let me confuse why we are so bad luck. For your case, I think maybe your spec is already pre-order by someone else before your walk in, then they can put u in the line quicker. Anyway, if I need to wait that long, I thinking cancel my deal and find sth similar spec car in stock, thinking can i do that for the late delivery coz they don't put the delivery date on the contract (my bad~) What can I do?
