Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Had that split second choice and hit the accelerator. Damn car kicked from D6 down to D2/3 and spun up to 7000rpm! and took off like a scalded cat. Redline is a 6k so where's the cutout? Sure surprised me that one.
i love my DSG but i use it 98% of the time in manual mode, using both paddles and the stick.

one reason is that on D mode, as you push the accelerator too deep, sometimes it shifts down 2 or more gears unwantedly and revv itself high. i don't like it esp when the engine oil is still too cold (<70 degrees).

i use the D mode on carparks and heavy traffic only

Best thing I've heard all week! Now this massive lump of yearning can slowly subside...
Hey Leon. That's awesome. Can i ask what your order date was and your build date.

      Cheers!

Seems fairly standard when trying to use the phone as a BT device and a music player. Time to get a USB stick or break out the iPod.
        .
You are right, this is a common problem. It happens when you connect the MDI cable BEFORE the bluetooth pairs with your iphone. If you wait until you pair up, then connect the MDI it works ok. It is actually to do with the iphone selecting the most recent audio device as the default device to play music.

you can go into the ipod software on the iphone and select the audio device manually, but it is still a bit of a pain. If only the iphone could set a default audio device!

I think this is less of an RNS510 problem but more of an iphone problem.

Well, I'll tell you what I remember...

I ordered in October '10 (can't remember the exact date, though I think it was early in the month.

In January this year, we discovered the order had been placed correctly and the car had started being built, except for one QUITE MAJOR mistake...the order was placed for a black car instead of Candy White.

As you can imagine, I basically shat mummified toads (not necessarily at the dealer because it wasn't directly their fault...combination of mine and theirs) because being the wrong colour was a detail I couldn't let slide.

Anyway, we re-ordered in Jan with an estimated delivery day of...wait for it...November this year.

          However...

I think the dealer pulled some strings to get my car ahead in the build list because of the screw up. No idea what the build date is/was, though the estimated delivery date is end of April. Should take delivery mid/end May.
Golf R ordered, here before I go old and grey: Expected delivery in August. Maybe.

Cheers for that. Looks like your dealers done some very good work for you. Nice one.

Thanks too for the phrase of the week 'Shat mummified toads' made me laugh loads and I am looking forward to using it....

I think the wait time is dropping considerably though. I'm hearing a lot around the traps of people getting their cars delivered around now who have only been waiting 4-5 months from order date.

Which is a damn sight better than the travesty of 7+ months most people have been waiting for their new playthings.

I think VW have finally pulled the proverbial finger out of their puckered sphincter and realised there is a place called Australia which orders their cars too...

It has always been 4 months for the GTI and significantly more for the Golf R. I haven't heard of any reduced time frames except for those that are lucky to receive a cancelled order.

Not true. I waited over 7 months for mine, and several other members have waited considerably longer than 4 months for a GTI in the past. It's possible that GTI order timeframes are improving now however - perhaps some potential GTI buyers are going for the R instead.

Agreed. One of my clients here in Brisbane ordered a GTi in July last year and is only taking delivery next week. Going on nearly 9 months wait.
