Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I would say that if you are getting the ACC because of the fact it has a "comfort" and "sports" button, then you're missing the pointCurrent Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist

Yes I'm using the factory headunit. No it doesn't have the correct outputs, you need to attach some kind of extra bit that allows for these connections (I didn't do the install obviously). Apparently the odd shaped oval tweeters with Focal are a problem fitting into the standard tweeter bays in the golfs..,, you might be able to make them fit, but I didn't go down that path,, No engine noise,, for those in Melbourne take it to No Limit Electronics in South Melbourne,, they do an amazing job, don't let JBhifi butcher your car like I used to!,, And for those wondering, the R's fit 6.5" splits as standard in the front and rear, not 3 ways... Also,, I was considering an aftermarket headunit, but DON'T do it,, when you get your car you'll realise everything ties in to the stock headunit, you don't want to get rid of it.

Hmmm I was hoping to put one of these in: Alpine Electronics of Australia
I did have a chat with one of the guys at my local shop and they reckon whilst it is time consuming they can hook it up so I won't lose any functionality...including still being able to use the steering wheel controls.Golf R 3dr, UG, Black 19's, DSG, Leather, ACC

Ah, well if you want to go down that path and they can guarantee all functionality, go for it! I was only concerned with sound from the headunit, not navigation + extras... I have the rear view camera too, could they tie that in?? Either way, one of the main reasons I use my gps is to tell me when I'm speeding.. 60km in a 50 zone, or 110 on a 100 road for example,, my tomtom does this perfectly,, and the $3k satnav option DOESN'T, I'm told,, does the Alpine? Either way this was another reason in me not replacing the stock headunit because I had no need for using navigation within it..

Thought it may be time for an update.
Three weeks in to ownership and 1200km on the clock. Engine still feels like it's tight but is spinning a little easier - probably more me getting used to the throttle and the car, so putting the boot in more. Still very happy with the car with only a couple of niggles.
First one is the cover over the power socket in the front. Was open in the car when I picked it up, and it will not close. Push it down and it springs back up again. Spoke to the dealer who advised they've had a few recently that have done that - new piece on order.
Second was a left rear tyre deflating. Not a problem with the car at all, just all the stupid road work and building going on around Canberra - picked up a screw, nearly 6" long in the middle of the tyre. Screw is probably from formwork used near the bridges being built. Tyre off, inspection, plug as it was a clean entry, and back on the car.
Still not sure about the ride. Would not call it harsh, but it is 'jiggly' on bumps. Might have to look at a 5 - 10% reduction in damping to make up for the 40 series tyres on the Adidas edition. Standard GTi rides a little better than mine. May not do anything as I'm gettind used to the way it drives. Makes the Discovery feel like a barge - it's not, actually drives really well for a 2.5ton vehicle. I also miss the height when driving the Gti, funny how easy it is to get used to the extra visibilty. And it DOES go off road - that's what it was bought for!Candy White Golf GTI Adidas with Park Assist and Reversing Camera

The 2hr drive home was sweet...until I saw her in full sun and noticed a 3"x2" mark in the paint on the bonnet. Looks like an acid rain type of mark, but under the clear coat. Then I noticed another one, then I looked at the roof to find a small (while very small, still there) patch of crazed paint. NOT HAPPY! I am hoping that the strange marks will polish out. But it is the crazing that worries me most.
Looks like I am taking a trip back to the dealer!
