Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Let me just put a stop to this madness.. a 118TSI is not more than most roads can handle.. cmon now guys.. I nearly booted on my LCD.. Just get an Excel for crying out load as it had a great power to weight and does everything you need..

I will say different people have different needs.

And yes I can see the R is just a golf and HSV is just commodore.. but its not true to anyone whom actually likes cars! Usually the people saying these things are the ones not actually buying a car. I.e. the window shoppers just hatin'

These special models are made up with better parts than the cheaper model, that equate's to a unique and special driving experience or at least thats what I think.

I guess an M3 is just a 3 series and C63 is just a C(180) class and an RS4 is just A4 audi.. I think not. And yes a 318 is enough for the roads.. but so is a scooter.

If your happy with your 118tsi enough to the point to where you join a forum to talk about it.. I think its more than just a car to you too though..

    • You're right there. The roads themselves can handle them, it's usually the speed limit or the slow truck in the way that's a problem.

I like that attitude... To have to wait 4-6months for a common hatchback just to get a certain option seems a bit weird to me. I like instant gratification as well. Not to mention that something better may come out while you wait!

I figure that a Golf GTI is very well equipped to begin with.... any options are just "nice to haves". I got burnt ordering a 306 S16 in the mid 90s with the optional sunroof and an airbag. After 11 weeks it still hadn't been built - lol. Will never put myself in that situation again.

I do think that VW really does need to rationalise their option strategy into a base spec and a luxo spec (lets say, leather, sunroof, bluetooth and 18s) that they prefer to build and ship. Hopefully that would keep the wait to <8weeks for most buyers.
If you want to option a car to some obscure spec then I suppose you are willing to wait.

Probably the smart thing would be to do what they did in the US and create certain spec gti's with certain options. Its how other manufacturers like toyota do it and it means a limited number of possible cars so it should be a shorter waiting time. My mate had a lancruiser built from scratch and it only took 4 weeks from order to delivery!

That being said i am happy to wait the 5 months for my car since ive still got a perfectly working car and am in no rush and im even more happy that i waited to get MY11 model.

          • If you're buying a car and plan to keep it for 10 years, I can see why people would wait 4+ months to get it the way they want. If you get a new car every 3 years then you probably prefer the quicker method.

                • The last new car I purchased, I had for 7.5 years. Sold it to get the Golf GTI which was taken away way too early. I don't have an outlook as to "I'm going to keep this Golf R for 5 or 10 years" etc, as situations change and desires change too, but I'd already waited 1.5 years for the R when the R was released. What's another 6 months when I could very well have it for another 7.5 years?!

So like AA I will provide and expect support to get through the tough times ahead..

I thank you for your kindness in advance...

Pfft, even the "lowly" polo 1.2 Turbo has more than enough go and capability to well exceed the limit but since when is that a reason for NOT buying a car?

There are 2 kinds of car people, those that don't give a **** (aka A to B) and people that love them.

Sorry I don't want a Ferrari 458 Italia cos I won't be able to do 200km/h. Pfft whatever , I'd sell my left nut for one, hell why not both. Not like there is room for baby seats anyway.

                        • I'd have a Veyron Super Sport but driving around everywhere in 2nd gear would be irritating. I'd rather just have the race track and a limitless supply of tyres

As potentially 'irresponsible' as this may sound - I have always gone to great pains (esp. to my wife ) to explain there is a vast difference between what you are 'allowed' to do and what you 'can' do.

Not that I am at all advocating flouting our fair and responsible road rules in any way.

Exactly, and the fact that people crap on like they mean otherwise, is just awesome.

"Hi, I like high performance vehicles - as long as I have them in my possession otherwise they are ****e"

Dont be a lying to yourself, and don't be a hater!

And yes I'd take a Carrera 4S in a heartbeat, even If I can only do 110km/h in it

But I believe I will never own one of those!
