Picked up the R yesterday! After months of hearing how the wait would be worth it, I can officially confirm that it is indeed worth it. Can't seem to stop looking at it.........going to have another look now!

Thanks mate! Took it for a long drive around the Gold Coast hinterland yesterday and was just blown away. A bit worried that 13 demerit points is not going to be enough somehow.......

great! Yeah Tweed European and Gold Coast Vw are both owned by James Frizelle Group. Great bunch of guys there (and the best deals) - so much better than any of the drop kicks who operate out of bris vegas (who are as arrogant as the Mercedes Benz dealers now)

Picked my 77TSi from Gold Coast around lunch time. Great that Rob got everything sorted out so I could get in and out in about the time for a lovely cup of coffee

Overall quite impressed by the trim level of the MY11.5

Most reviews seem to chide it for using plastic bits all over. While that's true, the plastic bits do feel a bit better than on the MkV and IMHO of better quality than some Japanese makes of the same price range. Like that VW didn't stinge on the silver bits and made the interior a bit more upmarket.

Ps I remember reading the GTI is supposed to be getting the new ugly DSG gearknob. Was that a misprint? Because that's the knob I got with the 77TSi!

When I test drove the older trim 1.2T in Singapore, it still had the old T bar shaped gearknob with the engage button on the right.

This one has the button in front like my old GTI MkV. Which means the golf ball knob replacement might be easier to implement!!

Seriously though, I'm quite happy with the change for that base level car. but if I ordered a GTI and got this instead, I'd be mighty pissed

Yeah - this is correct. I commented along the same lines elsewhere. The new DSG gearknob is certainly an improvement on the "T-Bar" of the previous base model cars. But to then change the GTI/GTD/R to use this same new DSG gearknob is a mistake imo.

Yes and No... it's the same "Form" across the model ranges, but the shifters in the GTI and R are constructed using Leather and Alloy (the Alloy button feels FANTASTIC to use, with a subtle sharp edge and "cool" touch IMO) where lower models use more plastics etc. I was pleased to see the change from the "Ball" equipped GTI that I test drove... I prefer the new shifter, but I appreciate that each person will have their own opinion on which is better.

Im very excited and am hoping the dealer did not lie to me because that does seem like a short wait after reading this thread.

What do you guys think? Anyone has been able to get them so quickly?

Dealer order. You win. I ordered mine, it got extended, extended, extended. Cancelled the order and get a dealer order that had just arrived and was being unloaded.

I got mine the same way. If you are not fussy on options it can work out well for you.

can also get lucky if your dealer swaps a car with another one. that is what happened with me so i got mine earlier
