hooba - the number and type of options does affect manufacture time - again, due to cars being built in batches depending ON those options, and the parts for those options also being delivered on an 'as needed' basis and not just sitting in stock in VW warehouses at the factory site.

So yes, sometimes you're lucky to get the car with the options you want already on a boat or in a dealer compound, but if it's a car to go through the entire "Dealer forward order" process (i.e. car built to order at the factory) then options can and do affect delivery time!

I've really enjoyed the "Megafactories" episodes on the Audi R8, 911, and Lamborghini, and was hoping to see something similar for VW.

Actually - there is a link around somewhere which has a video of the Golf being built! I'll see if I can find it.
It's not that long and nowhere near as indepth as the Megafactories or Ultimate Factories series though.

They rang me yesterday to say that they have confirmation of it being at the dealership tomorrow. Going in to have a quick look over it before they go ahead and prepare it for delivery.

Thanks for that, great vids which would make a useful sticky. The dip process looks identical to how they treat the Audi R8 bodies, the rest of the production is far more automated.
