Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Well the news I have been waiting for since July. My car will be ready for pickup on Thursday. Car ordered July; late December find out the car sent did not have all my options; chose another option which got me a free sunroof, but vehicle had already left Perth for Melbourne, car sent over from Melbourne, and finally, I get my hands on my new baby Thursday arvo.

GTI, CSG, 18" Detroits, Bi-Xenon, Park Assist, MDI, Bluetooth, Sunroof, Leather seats. Bring on Thursday.

I ordered in September last year and had a delivery date of March 1.. they "think" it could be May /June now..
You are spot on with the dealership. Yeah i don't mind the waiting part it just the communication or lack thereof. Where i work setting expectations and meeting them is a big thing so i guess i'm expecting the same level of communication that i provide to my customers.

      • Seriously... Denlo is where I bought my car, and they were spot on (within a day) of their initial 6 month estimate for me. As they have been for many of us guys. However, it seems that all the great sales people from Denlo are now over at their sister dealership of Chatswood Classic Cars. Which is funny, because when I bought my car, CCC were crap. REXman can atest to that. He left CCC disgusted and came over to Denlo to buy his car too - even though CCC is his "local". Now his sales guy is at CCC too!

Oh well. If you find a good sales guy, keep in touch with them! In my case, Mathew Gazzard looked after me whilst he was at Denlo. He then looked after several forum members who went to him on my suggestion at Denlo. And since moving to CCC he has looked after several more forum members. He's now in the process of looking after my mother (hahaha, keep it clean guys!) with a Polo.

Mathew said straight up for me to not expect any "real" update for about 2 months, and then expect updates every month from that. He met and even exceeded this expectation, not only answering my questions, but also answering several of the forum member questions here by proxy of me!

There are also the several forum member dealers here - Dermot, PhillipVWDealer, and Serge - who all deserve your consideration, even if they're interstate to you. If Mathew left VW tomorrow, I wouldn't hestitate to call any one of them and do a deal via the phone, and then fly to them and drive the car back. (ok... so I'm in Sydney, so I'd probably get Dermot to put the car on a train from WA to NSW, but you get my point!).

        • Hi sek. The way I look at it, buying a car (especially with VW and the long wait) is not a simple, quick, one touch transaction. It may last for months with frequent interactions.

As such, I invest some of my time and effort. Build some rapport with your salesperson; be friendly. It will payoff; things just flow more smoothly.

            • Well, on a brighter note, I picked up my R last Friday and they truly are a fabulous machine! Well worth the wait!
On the same day I had a filthy rich friend over with his Aston DB9. we took a blast in both cars early Saturday to Gosford from Sydney and, up the legal speed we were neck and neck! (I know, he can do 100+ kmh more)
My point is, he has now ordered a golf R - he was so impressed!

Have had a blast but I have to save the 40 degree temp today has taken about 20% of the power! Decidedly sluggish in real heat!
I understand why VW de-tuned slightly for Oz! The temp dial was at 100 degrees within a minute of driving today.

              Anyway - love that car!

                    • Seems to be that as a general rule ACC is generally not ordered on stock ordered cars.. and if it is the car is specced right up out of my price range. I really do want that option.. with DSG.. the Sat Nav and MDI can be fitted post delivery so I am not that concerned.. then of course to get it now piles on the dollars.. guess I just have to wait it out..

Fair enough, I know they are great guys to deal with. Dealt with Josh from there, though did have a bit of a chin wag with Phil when I dropped in. So much better then dealing with the other VW dealership here in Canberra (don't return your calls, not willing to be helpful, constant BS :S).

Thought that it was funny that there were 3 R's on the Gerald Slaven lot when I was looking at my GTD, only for them to be sold that week, then the next week when I bought my GTD its sister GTD was sold the same day. Must have a decent sized turn over.

                        Would buy from them again.

                        • Ordered mine on Sunday - Tornado Red GTI 5dr DSG, sunroof, tint, MDI, bluetooth, RVC, Detroits. Dealer said there was an exact matching car in Qld on the Gold Coast and I could have it by the end of this week.

Well as of yesterday the GC dealer is refusing to do a stock swap. My dealer called me last night as they have almost what I want - just no RVC - coming in at the end of Feb. Would I accept no RVC for a $500 refund or they can put RVC in for an additional $295. Sorry - I ordered a car with RVC that was apparently available now for $47k so I want a car with RVC available now for $47k as sold to me by you the dealer.

Dealer is installing the RVC when the stock comes in for no additional cost. Should be delivered at the earliest Feb 14th or latest Feb 28th. Fingers crossed.

The dealer has offered me a loan car whilst I wait as I have sold my car and need to hand it over this weekend to the new owner which I negotiated based on the dealers advice that I could have my new car this weekend. All in all a decent compromise.

                          • Hi kojarena. Sorry to hear that you've fallen victim to an uncooperative dealer re the stock swap (though, I'm sure they have their reasons and they're fully entitlted to deny the swap), but I'm glad to hear that a good compromise has been found and that they're taking care of you!

One reason I'm not looking at a vehicle in stock is the price. If I could find one close to my spec I would end up paying $,000's more than the one on order so I am just trying being patient.

                              • Yep, there is more chance of negotiating lower price for factory order. The other upside on the wait also allows more funds to be put aside - lower loan amount is always good.
