What we need now is VW posting up the option prices as well. Makes it easier for people to "build" their car and evaluate costs.
Can someone tell me if that spreadsheet thats floating around on the forum for the mkVI is still current? im building a cost base for the golf gti and not sure if i should use this as a guide..

            - - it seems late...u guys have said all i want to say...

Just one thing…there’s no wrong manufacturersor dealers or whatever business wanna make more profit…
And most ppl would like to pay reasonable price on good products…Sellers can put whatever price they want…the market and customer will decide they can survive or not
If u want to be a smart customer, (smart means not the kind of screwing dealer to the wall but buying the car at reasonable price at which dealer can make some profit and customer can feel comfortable and loving to go on with the deal), u need to spend some time on research which everyone on this forum will do and are doing.

$2k is fine IMO but i've never bought a car where i've not negotiated those costs down anyway.
Clearly there isn't enough margin to sustain the price reductions that some people expect when buying a car if you drop their margin by $2-4k, there would be plenty of people who would pay close to retail price so if you want to cut the dealers profit across the board this would mean less discounting for those that want to push to get a good deal as the dealer needs to cover their operating costs and make a profit.

I would rather have the people that don't care or won't educate themself paying more at the dealer allowing me to benefit from bigger discounts.

But if you want to have them remove dealer delivery the price of the car will go up by the same amount so it makes no difference at the end of the day. Does it matter if the car costs you $35,000 for the car and $3000 dealer delivery or $38,000 for the car and $0 dealer delivery? You're still paying $38,000.

I like the points made by both of those paragraphs - the first one may be selfish, but who cares
