  • VW Australia now have DRIVE AWAY pricing on their website!!!

When those new laws came in last year, VW pulled pricing of their cars off the website.

I checked tonight and it looks like its back:

Model Manufacturer’s Recommended Driveaway Price (Victoria)

Golf 90TSI Trendline 5 Door 6 Speed Manual
    $28,271.93*

Golf 90TSI Trendline 5 Door 7 Speed DSG
    $30,834.43*

Golf 77TDI Trendline 5 Door 5 Speed Manual
    $30,834.43*

Golf 77TDI Trendline 5 Door 7 Speed DSG
    $33,396.93*

Golf 118TSI Comfortline 5 Door 6 Speed Manual
    $32,884.43*

Golf 118TSI Comfortline 5 Door 7 Speed DSG
    $35,446.93*

Golf 103TDI Comfortline 5 Door 6 Speed Manual
    $35,446.93*

Golf 103TDI Comfortline 5 Door 6 Speed DSG
    $38,009.43*

Golf GTI 3 Door 6 Speed Manual
    $43,134.43*

Golf GTI 3 Door 6 Speed DSG
    $45,696.93*

Golf GTI 5 Door 6 Speed Manual
    $44,671.93*

Golf GTI 5 Door 6 Speed DSG
    $47,234.43*

*This is the manufacturer's recommended driveaway price. Available at participating dealers. Private buyers only. Price is based on a 40 year old male with a good driving record and for private use. The final price may vary according to your circumstances as confirmed by your dealer. Options and metallic paint available for an additional cost. Please see your local dealer to confirm your individual price.

This might make some of the VW Dealers abit more honest when it comes to Dealer Delivery now! I know of some VW Dealers (and I have price lists to prove this), that have their Dealer Delivery quoted at very heavily inflated rates). Having this info on the VW Australia website will make these dealers lower their Dealer Delivery rates to match what the VW Australia website is quoting.

Why would the dealers be ashamed?

Why do dealers need to lower their delivery prices?

Volkswagen have always had a recommended retail price and dealers do not need to follow this and there has been no sign of prices going up (as you're claiming) in the period between Krudd's new law to protect stupid people being brought in and today.

Yeah thats the total drive away price that VW are saying is for Victoria. (Dealer Delivery, Rego and Stamp Duty)

You need to put your postcode in, and it will generate a price list for your state.

(each state has different stamp duty rates)

Well no dealers have always been able to get away with whatever dealer delivery price they wanted until the new laws came in.

When this happened VW just removed the pricing off the website and directed people to talk to their dealer of choice

So doing it this way, it still left the dealers in control of their dealer delivery and whatever other fee's they put ontop of the car.

Now by VW Australia having their RECOMMENDED DRIVE AWAY prices on the site, it will make the dealers lower their prices to at least match what VW Australia is saying the RECOMMENED DRIVE AWAY price is.

Its like Sony saying the RRP of their Bluray player is $450, but JBHIFI go and price it at $650.

To be competitive, the retailer will AT LEAST match the RRP, in most cases beat it.

its only a RECOMMENDED retail price. In fact, pricing cannot be forced as this is aganist Trade Practices Law.

If the RRP of something is $100, demand is 2 units, and theres only one available, then I can pretty well guarantee that the actual selling price will be higher than the RRP, and vice versa if supply is greater than demand.

Its called a supply/demand price equilibrium.

People love a bargain and to be able to negotiate a huge discount, in fact I think that people are more obsessed with the discount theyve negotiated, rather than the actual price theyve paid.

Publishing RRPs still allows dealers to sell at a profit and make people happy about the price theyve negotiated

And most smart people would visit more than one dealer, prices where still listed in magazine and online reviews and the customer is in control of how much they pay.

So doing it this way, it still left the dealers in control of their dealer delivery and whatever other fee's they put ontop of the car.
Dealers can price their dealer delivery at whatever they want and always have.

What other fees are they putting on top? Are you saying they're making up fees? Perhaps like 'Volkswagen Advertising Fee $100', 'Krudd Tax $200', 'Global Emissions Tax $200'???

Now by VW Australia having their RECOMMENDED DRIVE AWAY prices on the site, it will make the dealers lower their prices to at least match what VW Australia is saying the RECOMMENED DRIVE AWAY price is.
I'd like to know how many had prices higher than the new RRP as the dealers are still aware of the RRP pricing from Volkswagen.

Its like Sony saying the RRP of their Bluray player is $450, but JBHIFI go and price it at $650.
If JB HiFi were the only retailer selling the unit and the demand was high they are allowed to sell at that price.

To be competitive, the retailer will AT LEAST match the RRP, in most cases beat it.
The retailer will sell it at a price that allows them to make sales and maintain margin. If it's too high (like you're claiming VW dealers were doing) they will make no sales.

Might not be of a huge benefit to those with access / knowledge of the spreadsheet and have the time to shop around extensively, but definitely a better starting point for the average joe.

Physically went down to and saw, if not at least called most of the dealers here in Victoria and the price breakdown for each option and even the car itself could be quite significant.

                Example:

                Dealer 1

                118TSI - $31,990 base cost
                Dealer 'duty' - $1995

                Dealer 2

                118TSI - $32,990 base cost
                Dealer 'duty' - $2995

I managed to get a similar % discount from both of them - based off the final 'RRP' they quoted me, however its quite obvious dealer 2 cushioned a significant % of the final price to begin with. At least the release of some base RRP numbers will keep some dealers a bit more honest.

Based on these prices having no options attached to them yet, I think it's the most comforting post yet in making me feel like I got a decent deal on my GTI mk6.

With ACC/Dynaudio/Reverse cam added I paid only a small amount over the recommended $47,234.

This is in stark contrast to that other tread going where people have mentioned they got up to 11 per cent off!

In the end though....what a car!

Can anyone else see a problem with this stipulation. Surely this has to be one for the PC people.
Why would VWA care who bought their car?
how could age or driving record affect the price?

I contacted 3 dealers about the driveaway price i saw on the tiguan advert and they all told me it either wasn't achievable or that it was an error and it meant drive away = only dealer delivery, not stamp duty and rego etc.

When i contacted VWA about this, they said there was nothing they could do as the dealerships aren't a part of VWA and the prices cannot be enforced due to ACCC powers or something along those lines.

The VWA rep then told me to contact the dealers and see if I could get them to drop the price which of course they wouldn't.

The conditions on the drive away prices in the first post would rule out 75% of VW owners.

That seems quite odd and abit dodgy.

I have been looking at cars from Mazda, Honda, Nissan and they have the same setup as VW. By entering your postcode and then the drive away prices are listed.

All the dealers I have visted from these companies have the drive away prices on the website on their price lists, and in some cases (with Honda) they have bettered the drive away prices listed by the website by a few hundred dollars.

Yeah - these prices would indicate that dealer delivery on the Golf GTI should be only $1995. Some dealers already only charge that. Others don't. Either way, as others have already stated, these are just RRP's and there is nothing which can force dealers to comply - other than an astute customer pointing out that their quote is above the RRP

Right so the pricing VW state on their site uses the $2k DD... however the dealer may give you a full RRP including a $3k or even $4k DD.

I wonder what their response would be when you ask them why they charge up to $2000 more than VW states as a RRP. How can it be justified?

At the end of the day, you're going to be negotiating a lower price anyway right? Unless of course its a vehicle in high demand which they wont budge on.

Blame Krudd and his stupid laws and the states and they complicated ways they screw us when buying a car. Stamp duties, registration and so on all vary according to age, purpose of the vehicle and so forth. To provide prices for every option wouldn't be feasible so they provide the most common one.
