I'd like to say thank you to all the dealers here even though I haven't dealt with them (or any dealers from any brand). You've changed my perception of dealers, and in fact, if/when I do buy a car you guys are making me consider coming interstate to get it (also has the bonus of hours of fun driving the coast lol)....I'll keep dreaming

In regard to dermots post (without quoting the entire thing) about business and people not taking factors like rent, wages, electricity and all other asociated running costs/overheads of a business:
I've been working in hospitality for 10+ years and am
constantly amazed at peoples comments re "cost per cup of coffee".
A lot of peole think it's around the 30cent mark- believing the raw cost (cup milk coffee) is all that matters.
What about wages, rent, electricity, water insurance r&m etc etc? It's more like $1-1.20
business is business- just be happy you can negotiate the price of your VW - cause there is no haggle at the cafe!!Current - MY16 2015 Octavia VRS Wagon 220 tsi DSG Corrida Red, tech, Leather, 18" black

In Sydney CBD (where I currently and have allways worked) the competition is very strong not only for product quality but price. At my work (high end high volume cafe/restaurant) we charge 2.60/3.20 takeaway and 3.60/4.00 sit down.
Our justification? To break even we need to take close to $30k in a 5 day week.
Rent along is close to $20k per month and we have 12staff.
If we didn't make an average 1.70 profit per cup those 12 staff would be out of a job- not to mention the number of suppliers who we order from... There is a flow on effect.Current - MY16 2015 Octavia VRS Wagon 220 tsi DSG Corrida Red, tech, Leather, 18" black

There should be enough margin in the vehicle from their cost to the RRP to allow the dealers to run their business effectively without having to charge an excessive (and IMO $4k is excessive) Dealer Delivery fee.
$2k is fine IMO but i've never bought a car where i've not negotiated those costs down anyway.2019 BMW M3 CS
