Have you actually driven a turbo petrol car? Currently my polo gti has 330Nm from a 1.8L petrol engine. It will give you the same (if not better) "surge" as the Golf GTD.

I'm relative new to the forum and would appreciate some advice on the pricing of a new GTD.

Just got quoted $46,000 on road for a new GTD (DSG), white, leather, reverse camera & MDI.

Has anyone got any quotes on the GTD.

I have also been told that it wouldn't be delivered prior to Jan next year.

If i was looking to buy a GTI, i would seriously consider GTD eve if the price is the same. Could see the amazing fuel efficiency making me do more long road trips!

However, the issue of traction will probably get to me in the same way my current mkv gti (apr) does. I hate wheel spins! Hence hate rainy days even more!

They've had them in Europe for a long time - typically in places where it snows for several months a year. You dont' really see them outside of those countries though...

Had the opportunity to experience the GTD next to the GTI at VW's advanced driver training session at Norwell (QLD) yesterday. Awesome machine, nice power balance, the DSG does a fantastic job of keeping the engine in the torque band.

I've heard it's a possible order option from VW Aus, but at a 10k premium. Wrong engine to get me interested, but a big improvement over FWD none the less.

That would be interesting to know the process for this to occur. It's not an "advertised" or "published" option. So it must be some type of special order. But if you could order in that, then surely you could order in any VW model which isn't available here if you were willing to pay that "premium". Phaeton, Scirocco etc. I think this sounds more rumour than anything else...

(p.s. I'd love to be proved wrong though!)

After the arguments I had with VWA relating to the LED tail lights (and also paint colour as a test), I highly doubt that it's possible to order it locally.

Yeah - good points! You can't even get one of the UK available colours, even though they're a RHD country and made from the same production line! That reminds me of my attempts to purchase a (I think it was "Laser Blue") blue MKV GTI when they first came out in Australia and were only available in the Shadow Blue, which I thought was too dark.

Good news that my CW GTD is on the Tijuca ex Bremerhaven today, due Brisbane on 5th October. Long wait considering I paid my deposit last December. It has DSG, satnav, bi-xenons, bluetooth, ACC, park assist and rear view camera. I also got a euro numberplate 11GTD. Now all I need is to crack a driving course. I'm excited.

The Tijuca made it back to Bremerhaven - it brought my car via the USA / Panama Canal and delivered it in Oz on June 20th, and then went back via Thailand.
