  • Just my 2 cents being a GT Sport driver the past three years...

Took a GTD for a test drive this week as well as a GTI....

Gotta say the GTD is the same as my GT Sport for power delivery/acceleration wise/ Little quieter thou. Although with 90000km on the clock mine is quite loose and does sound like a tractor!

And as far as I'm concerned, acceleration wise, the GTD and my GT Sport for that matter have got NOTHING on the GTI! can't wait for my R to hurry up and frikin get here already lol.

In saying that, I do a shed load of highway driving and the fuel economy of the diesel has been fantastic at 6.9/100. I thought I'd never go back to a petrol car again however with the R rated at 8.9 I am more than happy, especially since the old WRX was pulling 11's and 12's!

Congrats mate, glad you're happy with your purchase.

Now that I've been nice, I'm hoping you can find it in your heart to forgive my sig.

Like most diesels, the GTD sounded great right up until I heard the price. The performance and fuel economy is only slightly better than the 118TSI but the price is barely any less than the GTI. The massive low-rev torque of a diesel is nice but you'd have to really, really want that to pick a GTD.

              • Well... considering it's also equiped like a GTI, I'm a bit confused as to why you think that it would be priced like a 118TSI...

TDI will have much better fuel consumption when driven hard and when driving to work in pick our traffic. Of course if driven sensibly there is only little difference in L/100km between the two.

Not entirely relevant, but I drove a Golf Mk5 wagon TDI in Germany 2 years ago on my way to the Nurburgring and on the Autobahn doing about 150km/h, the fuel economy was terrible!

Not sure which thread I should ne on, however, just been advised that my car (GTD) which is on the "Morning Camilla" has now unlimited factory warranty. Has any one else heard but this?

                              • New GTD comparo.

Have done 400 kms in our new carbon steel GTD. We upgraded from Mk 5 2.0TDI Pacific. Observations so far are; CR 125 engine is far quieter and smoother than the PD103. The combination of the latest DSG and the new motor have eliminated the awful lag off the line that the mk 5 had. Comfort is superb, though road noise is again an issue. I fixed that by fitting Toyo tyres on the mk 5. This car has Bridgestones, other one had Conti's. Can not operate the radio properly as yet, maybe because I wont tackle the 68 page fine print user manual. Love the smooth and strong power and the handling on the mountain roads is the best I've experienced. Not too sure about fuel usage, but so far not as good as old one. That should improve I guess as my foot gets lighter and new car frees up.
We spent a little over $20K changeover, so I was a little nervous that it would be hard to justify. I am happy so far.
