    • The dealers are hardly going to be suggesting that discounts can be had before we even have retail pricing.

I believe it happened with the GTI also and look at the 8-14% discounts all over the place.

      • I think they are saying 'No Discounts' to the people that call up now, because the dealer knows right away that the people that are putting down deposits and calling up making enquiries are keen and want the car A.S.A.P.

Thus the reason why they are saying no discounts.

If you rock up to a dealer once its been released, im sure discounts can be had.

Not true, you could still do a pre-order with a corporate discount given the pre-order is based on a contract for an R32 since they don't have an R in their systems.

          • Weren't dealers saying no discounts on the GTI as well?

That said, I've always been pretty adamant that the R would be much closer to 60K than 50K and if the Golf R does list for low 50s I would say the car would be on a tighter margin than other cars. If so that would reduce the capacity of dealers to offer discounts.

Perhaps some of our dealer friends might like to educate us a little bit. We won't share your secrets with anyone. Promise!

You maybe right, however with no leather being standard thats is a huge amount of money that VWA are going to save, and its a huge amount VW dealers are going to save, which should result in a lower RRP.

Also remember that the PR guy from VWA did say it would be priced between the R32 and GTI Price.

Now the R32 was 55Kish and the GTI is about 45Kish.

So if you take his words literally, between those 2 figures is the 50K price that people and some dealers are expecting.

and its entirely reasonable, considering the R32 was 55Kish WITH leather. If you remove the leather option (which is close to 5K), you are down to a 50K Car.

                • well if you want GTI with few extras (that seems to be included in R) you are pretty close to what R costs....

That is exactly why I want VW to release the pricing soon so I can toss up wether its worth me cancelling my GTI order. It will all come down to price I suppose.

                      • I bought my Polo GTI in April 2009 because of the Golf R. My GTI was written off by a stupid bus driver, and because I knew of the R coming, I bought the Polo as a 'cheap and sensible option' whilst waiting for this!

Of course, I've actually grown to love the Polo GTI (partly due to the APR Stage I ECU upgrade), but I'm still waiting for this R...

... and word on VW Australia coming to their senses and allowing us to order 3 door models...

                          • Lima has posted another article over at Ausmotive.com, this time showing the black 3 door R spotted at Port Kembla in NSW. I'd say that this is the car that parso_rex has been talking about in the past few pages.

I don't get why so far we've only seen 3 door models, when VW Australia are telling us that we're not allowed to have them. That just seems like cruelty to the animals

                              • Haha hoots love the photographic proof. Can one of the guys on here email that PR guy for VWA and ask him what the hell is going on? And if he says it only for 'press cars', then clearly VWA know the 3 door R is more superior and more likely to win over the press compared to the 5 door. So why cripple what the Aussie market can buy?

I know it's only been a few days, but common VWA! I want pricing! And I want a 3 door! Not hard! If your already imprting them and telling dealers what the options list prices are, then you must know what price it's going to sell
for, so just come out with it already!
