  • I think the Golf R has bit too much hype to it. It won't turn out as people imagine it to be especially stock... if you are going to tune it, that is a different story.

The Golf R difference to the Mk5 R32, would be as much as Mk5gti to Mk6 gti. Minimal.

i'm sure people will list out all the differences to prove me wrong, just like people who bought the mk6, but at the end of the day, it is more a facelift than a new car.

This is exactly what VW does... mk1 -> Mk2 minimal differences with mk1 actually better. then there was a big change when the mk3 came out... and mk3 -> mk4, another facelift and minor changes... then cycle continues mk5 huge changes and mk5 ->6 minor changes once again.

People who just wait for the mk7 but... from the history trend, it might be another 6 years lol

      and that's from http://www.ausmotive.com/2010/03/24/...l#comment-6515

i thought that we were getting the 188kw with the euro spec 350nm??? if that's the case, i'll probably consider the audi s3, i've heard some people are getting a pretty goood deal on them.
All the more reason to get an APR retune I'd they are detuned for Australia. However if we actually got 199kw you'd have to think harder about it.

sorry i mean that motor mag quoted that we'll get the 188kw instead of the 199kw but it'll have the same euro torque figure of 350nm.

it's not a good value car anymore with 188kw and 330nm. gti is better value

          • Who cares about the exact torque and power figures? The APR boys level things up anyway, don't they?

Didnt the Golf R32 have similar power outputs?

                • the r32 has 184kW at 6,300rpm of power and 320Nm of torque at 2,500 – 3,000rpm

                  • Oh man, there should be a R thread dedicated exclusively to news about it (official and leaked). There's way too much noise here (I contributed to it, too) and my heart jumps every time there's another post! The disapointment coming here just to find some people fighting over a few Nm or whingeing about door numbers is unbearable...

The R32 is a fair bit heavier, isn't it?

Point being, we get shafted and I put it down to our lower population combined with taxes such as LCT.
Why not? Your argument makes no sense. Its nothing to do with taxes! Get over it.

The whole point of the LCT I thought was to minimise pollution? as Luxury Cars which produce less then a certain amount of emmisions and L/100KM are excempt. Thats why alot of the Merc/BMW/VW/Audi Diesels in their up market cars get away without having to paying LCT.
Luxury Car Tax... it was a tax on luxury cars. Nothing to do with fuel economy until the Greens etc stuck their noses in and got an exemption based on fuel economy.

Luckily we don't have a gas guzzler tax like the USA.

                          • Please do not discuss the Luxury Car Tax and Government in this thread.
Swallowtail already asked (last post of page 69) that this discussion does not occur, so whilst Dubya is correct, this is not the place for it!

Any further discussion of it will receive infractions.

                            • Maybe people should start a LCT thread, don't see the big hoo har as it's no different to LCT on R32's once you choose a few options.

                              (just a suggestion Corying).

                              • Update: A few more images of the three-door Gold R in Australia have surfaced, this time in black.

This was spotted at the Perth wharf. 3 door - interesting...
