  • One thing I will say is that if the decision to not bring the 3 door is in relation to allocation and not a genuine decision to not bring it then ill be mighty pissed off if they introduce it 12 months later.
It would be better to say "we would love to bring it but we just cant get any right now" than to make people think there is no option.

      • No worries

On an unrelated note, our local VW/BMW dealer just happened to have new BMW Z4's with the new DCT box in them when I went past yesterday, so I took one for a test drive. Every bit as impressive as the DSG for those that haven't had the chance to compare.

I also may have fallen in love with that twin turbo inline 6.....

Stock for stock the R32 was still the best performance model, A modded GTI may have more power but the looks, handling, sound, brakes, street cred are more from the flagship model.

Still a bit annoying the palm it off being better than it is though, whereas a GTI would have been good enough and left some more money for mods. Def good bang for buck and you start going backwards with the extra weight of AWD etc.

Twin turbo 6 + RWD + DCT would be a good combo

If I could get a better than normal trade on the R32 I wouldn't mind a 135i, but I know it's not going to happen with the values as they are at the moment.

Point 5 is fact. Have a look, there is no possible way that you could say I'm wrong. If simply having a visual look isn't clear cut enough, then a tape measure would more than prove I'm correct.

Point 4 is possibly just me - but it's related to point 3

Point 3 isn't just an issue I have because other people I've talked to personally have mentiond the same thing... it's why some people love the fact that the the VW Eos, most BMW Coupes, Peugot CC's, and many many other 2 or 3 door coupes have NO B pillar at all.

So yeah - I can understand why people driving 5 door cars haven't noticed points 3 to 5, because you haven't experienced the superiority of the 2 or 3 door cars to even know what it is that you're missing out on
Not the case here. I've just bought a 5 door GTI after owning an MGF for 5 years and regularly driving my girlfriend's Mitsubishi Mirage. Moving between the 3 and 5 doors, the biggest impressions are the annoying seat belt position and the fact that the driver's door is much more difficult to get into in a car park. And the fact I have to be a contortionist to get into the back frickin' seat. Peripheral vision and a feeling of being "closed in" have never crossed my mind. However, I'm under 6 foot and like to sit close to the steering wheel (able to rest my wrists on the top of the steering wheel with my shoulders still touching the seat back) so perhaps that is a mitigating factor.

Perhaps the decision not to the bring in the 3dr Golf R is an indication that the Scirocco R is on the cards.

                • Yeah - I'd rather them just be open with us.

Having said that, I'm not interested in the Scirocco R.
Although it looks cool from the front, and even side on, I think it looks awkward at other various angles and from the rear. It's also 4 seat only, with a lower headroom for the occassions when I do need to have friends in the rear, it has smaller boot space, and it's only FWD and not 4WD. With the ~$15k there is between a Golf GTI and a Scirocco R you can do an ECU flash, change the suspension to KW Rev 3s, and brembo brakes and you would have a more powerful and better handling car...
Same is not the case for the Golf GTI to Golf R though due to the AWD.

Personally I think its pretty sad on there part ,its looking more like they're going to rip the OZ market off than putting another great Vdub on the market .

                        Cheers

                        • I wouldn't say that. They've said they've going to bring it, and VW typically don't release pricing until the actual release or a few weeks before the actual release. I've heard that we could possibly expect pricing as early as next week.

My main concern is still that they think that Australians don't want a 3 door sports hatchback. Whereas if I needed a 5 door car, I'd buy an Audi A4 Wagon!

                            You'll just have a 2 door wagon

                              • That's good news! However it seems odd considering that GTI pricing was only announced a few weeks before the launch? And we are still only in March? With a July release? Seems abit pre mature?
