Not really a tough choice.
If money is an option, got the GTI.

If you have enough, then the R will be better in every aspect.
Plus the LED lights will be close to 1k landed and then extra to install if you buy them aftermarket for the GTI.
Hopefully the R Xenon's are actually using functional DRL's.

It's a bit ambiguous, is it referring the the old R32 or the new R? I've sent a couple of email enquiries, so let's see what that reveals. Of course, our friendly dealer reps on here might be able to shed some light on those figures too.

Nothing new there, and his info is wrong. Ours will have 330Nm, not 350 like the euro spec. It will also mean that the quoted 0-100 times will be slightly slower.

The Golf R will also feature in this month's DLC for Forza 3.

"The pricing quoted [in today's goauto article] is for the R32. We have not released pricing for the Golf R yet and will not be releasing pricing until the launch."

The leaked list is wrong for that one.
Look at the bottom of the headlight where it joins the grill, it angles upwards just before the grill like the Golf R.
The scirocco R is smooth all the way to the grill.

What are the standard 18"x7.5" wheels and which ones are the 18"x8" options then?

It's already been established that the GoAuto article is full of crap. There are no 18x8" factory options available. There would be dealer accessories though which are probably 18x8".
