    • Thanks mate - am just waiting on the contact's name now so I can order the part!

Incidentally, I think it was a result of the precipitation inside the tail light that other people have been mentioning...

      • I am so screwed!!!

I'm so screwed and I don't know what to do.....please help.

I received my led tail lights today thanks to Ozram yaaaaay but the joy stops there.

I decided to install them tonight - right side all done schweeeet, now onto the left.

I started with the smaller inner lights which have the two 8mm screws, I un did the first but trying to undo the second I threaded the nut and can't get it off or the inner tail lights. Ahhhhhhhh

I thought I'd move on from that and install the large left hand lightand worry about the threaded nut afterwards. I lined up the large light and screwed the white plaster screw that fixes the light in. Then on to the adapter, I plugged it all in and noticed the adapter wasn't plugging right into the back of the light. Thinking maybe it was my imagination I tried the lights to see if they were working for this tail light.....nope!

I realized it was because the adapter wasn't plugging in the whole way so I maybe thought I misaligned the tail light so I would unto the screw take out the tail light and realign it and try again. I then tried to unscrew the white plug thing again and couldn't unscrew it for the life of me!!!! Wtf!!!

Im not sure if it's because I did it up too tight or not but I can't gt it off! I'm screwed, literally and don't know what to do.

        • Any workshops or garages nearby that could help? Maybe some Google searches on how to remove cross-threaded bolts - might be a special tool or something you can get. Someone must've been in a similar situation before and posted about it online. There's something called a 'nut cracker' that might help.

          Sorry to hear about it.

          • Koz, have you cross threaded the old light or the new LED?
Either way, it sounds like the stud part is turning in the plastic. It may be very difficult to undo. Get a female torx socket to fit over the end of the stud. You can see the end of your stud in the picture here
Once you hold the end of the stud with the torx socket you can get an 8mm ring spanner on the nut and undo it.

As for the outer light and the white plastic bolt, they can be tight. Get a pair of pliers , side grips or multi wrench on it.

            Hope this helps mate.

            • If the screw is stuffed you may have to drill it out, if you go to the hardwarestore you can buy a drill bit specifically to do this. just pick up some new screws while you are at it

              • The above is not much help to Koz, also be careful when you use these so called screw extractors, because usually people brake them in the bolt they try to remove and then it's more difficult to drill it out (the extractors are harder than the drill bits and therefor also more brittle).

to Koz there are businesses that specialize in removing broken bolts, they come to you. It's maybe a good option to consider.

                • There is always Golf Loon's stuck bolt removal technique

...although maybe it's not an option in your case

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                  • Hey guys,

Thanks for the input, Im getting a guy from my work to help me. Stay tuned for an update tonight, I think some might have a chuckle with part of the update.

                    ---------- Post added 04-12-2011 at 08:07 PM ---------- Previous post was 03-12-2011 at 09:56 AM ----------

So here is the update as promised.

An older guy who I work with is really handy so I thought I'd get him to try and help - lucky I did. In regards to me not getting the white screw to undo so I could take out the large light and see if needed to be realigned, the problem was I was turning it the wrong way!!! What a ****head.

Once I got the tail light off I noticed that the taillight come with one bent pronge in its adapter hence why it was working. He straightened that out for me then we plugged it back up and it was good to go. The on to the inner tail light which I thought had been threaded - he put WD40 on it we left it a few hours then he used his ratchet set and it come off as easy as can be.

I can now say I have a full set of working R Tails on my car. Now all I need is to find someone with VCDS to help me code it.

As i'm getting the lights next week, i need to start looking for anyone with VCDS or vagcom (sorry for my ignorance) and help me code whatever is needed for the tail lights. I live in Melbourne eastern suburbs (box HIll). Can anyone offer their assistance?

                          • For people that lives in the east... Please call up audvolks... In Clayton the contact is Raymond... He's really helpful... And did my car today. He should know how to change it for u in matter of seconds, since we spent couple of hours today. I really appreciate his help. For ppl that wanna vagcom for halogen... The 18th byte value is originally 00, u need to change to 15!!!!!, change to make sure it's 15. U can also set to 04, as suggested by the dealer in germany(ozrams contact)... But the Parker's dot work. After code change, ensure all lights working.

Not strictly true. It all depends on the year model of your vehicle. Actually it is totally reliant on what version your central electrics controller is. For instance, my 2009 halogen was coded at 4. Subsequent coding on newer vehicles has been 15, 22 or 45. The MY12 GTI I recently coded was back at 4 again. The paperwork you receive from my contact is a guide to the probable coding, dependent on your controller revision.

Its important to check all your lights work correctly after coding. You can't really stuff anything up by trying different codes, I've gone through two or three sometimes to get the correct one. I'd still advise that you write down your original long coding setting before you begin.

For more info on this see AdamD's excellent post here

                              • yes, that's right. obviously depends on your Central eletrics controller. thanks for clearing that up.
