  • Oh, I thought you bought the proper HID kit as in headlight assembly, wiring loom, leveller etc. If just a globe replacement is a piece of piss to fit, just need to find somewhere to clip the ballast in safely, swap out globe, connect to loom, done (if not designed for "canbus" you may get globe out errors.

I had the Jaycar H4 ones (with the electromagnet low/high adjuster) in my WRX and the light cut off on low beam was very good (they came with holder that had shield built in, you could see a very good vertical demarcation), was never flashed by incoming cars once, unlike when I tried 80/100W cheapie H4 halogen that didn't go into the lens focus point properly and glared all over the place...

P.s it was lighting, Bluetooth integration, Sat nav integration & cool mfd features that helped me decide to get rid of the ancient rex and get an R...as I knew the HID globes were not legal (giant bug eyes must have shone pretty brightly LOL) and knew that most Euro cars offer HID standard..and it was just so nice to get all these things standard in an R.

        • Finally installed, Phillips 8000K HID kit
Massive improvement over stock and still yet to have someone flash their lights at me after my 2hr drive home this evening.

          • Please tell me photo 2 is with high beams on? If not, then ouch, there is very poor cut off and huge glare...
Photo 3 cut off looks not too bad but very difficult to tell from a photo as cameras tend to be poor at night.

Not sure why it turned out like that because it looks nothing like that with the naked eye, just my iPhone camera made it look poor.
I'm just glad nobody is flashing their lights, and they're a massive improvement over halogen bulbs, until i change the headlights, it'll do.

Can you replace the standard DRL bulbs in the Mk 7 Golf with LED bulbs? If so, what bulbs are recommended that won't throw an error on the dashboard?

                  • Does anyone have any good recommendations for golf mk6 replica xenons? Feels like a lot of mk6 didn't not get these optioned from factory which I can understand kaldi they were a 3k option :/

                    • I don't have a recommendation however, steer clear of Mars Performance lights.
I don't mean to knock the business because they're a great bunch of guys, however, a relative had the headlights on his Audi A4 B7 and they were horrendous, it was like sitting in a car with two candles strapped to the front bar, visibility was poor and no matter what globes were tried no improvements could be made.

                      • Question: Has anyone tried to buy the whole Bi-Xenon headlights from VW? As in, the entire light, ballast, bulb etc? Can it be bought?

                        • Hi disciple

I have inquired to a few of my local VW dealerships about the entire led bi xenon headlights with ballast , bulbs etc for the GTi that have halogens and all I got in return was "sorry we don't have any retrofit kits"

i think you could buy the oem bi xenons by itself, I didn't ask them that

oh if anyone know the Australian part number for the oem bi xenon lights, I would greatly appreciate it

                          • I'm seriously considering going and getting a set of Depo LED Taillights (Cherry Red) and Eds Bixenon Headlights (the new non LED ones).

                            Someone convince me otherwise haha.

Just make sure you also buy the headlight washers and self leveling system to make the Bi-X headlight install legal.
I believe the wiring is also different for oem halogen and oem bi-x cars

True. Reading up on the various laws and what not.

The question I have, however, is whether or not the various ADRs that describe road vehicle headlights are applicable and legislated to all road users, or whether or not its for manufacturers. They're a set of design rules that manufacturers must meet in order to legally sell their products in Australia. I can't see much mention of whether or not its still applicable, and can be used to defect, a normal vehicle, once its in Australia. That vehicle would have already had to be ADR compliant to even be sold in Australia. Unless there is a stipulation somewhere that it must be ADR compliant to be considered road legal or whatever.

Anyone point me to any documents, either Australian or QLD specific?

Sounds like its a bit of a grey area, and all too much effort anyways haha.
