  • Agreed. Tell Ian that Liam expected him to do a better deal than that.

I guess it depends how serious you are about buying from them. You should be able to neg a better deal than that, but like any dealer, you'll need to indicate you are willing to sign on the dotted line there and then.

    • lol .. You know Ian then I take it. And yes I imagine if I said I'd drive down tomorrow and pick it up I'd move $2k from thier advertised driveaway price. There's a similar spec with red nappa, roof, fbsw for $69k but he wouldn't move on that over the phone either. Would be a steal at $67k I think.

There's a 2008 LE with recaro's, nav and the blackout/ti wheels for $65k private sale on carsales which isn't a bad buy really. Best try get that for close to $60k though. To be honest though, I've gt a good $2k deposit with the VW dealer and I'm not about to throw it away / forfeit to switch to an S3. Just hoping the R is in my $65k max without being too stock.

      • I'd wait for the R and see if it's worth it over your optioned up GTI. The S3 doesn't do it for me like the Golf GTI or R. The current S3 is also a couple of years old now isn't it? So you'd probably be envious once everyone's GTIs and Rs show up in a few months time.

I give SFA about the supposed brand snobbery of an Audi over a VW, go for the actual car you like best.

        • I easily prefer the interior of the GTI (and R I guess) over the A3/S3.

I'm an ex Audi driver so I do have some history to the brand - all great cars.

As you suggested, I am waiting for RRP to be released but I am excited to swap to the R.

          • The fit and finish is still better on Audi, although the MK6 are slowly catching up.

            • I'm sure it is still better overall on the Audi.. and I agree that the MK6 is a step up for VW.

              • Just stick with the GTI order i reckon, they will be almost as good and fine for the streets.. turns into a 'who's got the biggest' if you're not careful. At least until they are actually out and you know the prices and drive one before deciding and the lag would be the same as the Pirelli. Unless you're racing it on the track or off the lights, don't know how much better it would be.

                • The main reason my decision came about to change is longevity. I tend to keep cars for 2 years and flip them - an expensive exercise.

I am hoping to keep the next for 4 years and think the R will offer a better base for the long term.

Yeah, I didn't buy my car from him, but he is my point of contact now since my mate has left ACC. As it turns out I also lived next door to Ian's parents for about 4 years.

                    • Could be the case elisiX, depends how easily you get bored with things. Either way two years is fairly short, just long enough to wear the depreciation for the next owner (i'd go for 3-5 years).

My last 2 cars were both purchased between 6 to 12 months old and I flipped them with 1-2 months of their 3 yr warranty left. It's amazing how little you can lose doing this.

My R32 was 3 months old with 2,200km on the clock. Black 3 dr, dsg, roof and I bought it for $52000. Kept it 2.5yrs and sold it for $44500. I thought $7500 for that long was quite good.

That's not too bad, but assumed elisiX was talking about a brand new one every two years which isn't really the same. Helps to sell them with warranty, which isn't hard if you can extend it after 3 years.

Yes, you would! This place likes to deal, it's Open Haus, they have a lot of stock on the floor and as tomorrow is all but the end of month, so that's when you'd do it You'll get your GTI deposit back

It's obviously a matter of personal taste between the Audi and the VW, but remember this: by getting the discount now, you are, in part, insulating yourself from the depreciation issue for the S3 relative to the R20.

Well assuming the guy I bought it off paid RRP, then he dropped $15000 because he didn't like the dsg.

Funnily enough he wanted the manual Clio Sport I was selling. Didn't end up happening as I was a bit stubborn on the price much to his disgust.

                              • Just curious as i've never pulled out from a deal before, but how do you possibly get a deposit back from the dealer outside the cooling offer period?

Also in response to the earlier comments, I do buy new cars every 2-3 years and yes, its bloody expensive to do so. Sounds like your onto a good thing backdoc.
