  • I think if you're ordering more than a couple of options it would be best to keep the car as long as you can..

May also come down to if you prefer a GTI with a lot of options or if you are happy to get into an R with not many options.

I'd be happy with either to be honest, and the GTI handles pretty well and would be enough for the streets. Golf R nice if you want to track it or go for huge power mods.

Ps were you going to get 3 or 5dr elisiX? Personally I'd probably go for a 3dr with sunroof or 5dr without (to offset the cost).

    • The GTI was ordered in 5DR and is my preference.. but the R will depend on what's available.

For example. If 2 R's are available..

3 DR DSG w/ Leather, Xenon, Sunroof, MDI, NAV..

5 DR DSG w/ Leather, Xenon, Sunroof, MDI

and the pricing is similar.. I may be swayed into the 3 DR.

Ideally I want 5 DR DSG w/ Leather, Xenon, Sunroof, MDI, NAV.. but I am quite sure that will easily exceed my $65k limit.

This is all assuming leather and xenon are standard btw.

      • elisiX I think you might be a bit disappointed as i don't belive they will be coming with leather as STD read the NZ site http://www.volkswagen.co.nz/publish/...lf/golf_r.html they are coming with Black sports fabric(Black Cloth :S??).... so i don't see why they get cloth as std an we get leather an they pay more then us....

        • While the NZ vehicles can serve as an indication to statistics/performance figures, I don't think it applies to standard specification.

I deliberately called almost every dealer in Sydney the other day to get any info I could about the R. Every one said Leather and Xenon will be standard.

Of course nothing's official and they could be very wrong.

          • The various photos i've seen on the web show 3 different versions of seats.
            1. Sports seats with leather & seude inserts
            2. Sports seats in full leather
            3. Recaro Bucket seats (leather i think?)

The full leather will by my choice.

            • Surely you couldn't go past leather recaro's...
would be great for the track if you fancy a few laps..

lets hope so as then i would only have to add sunroof, dynaudio to the options list

Will just have to wait and see .

If those two items aren't standard it would bump the price up a lot more over a GTI.

Leather isn't really the best for racing seats is it, you'd slide around a bit?

I wouldnt mind leather recaros if i had a 5dr R, but wouldnt' bother with a 3dr.. Makes it a bit hard to reach/access the back seat.

Yeah - the Recaro Bucket seats are also in full leather.

I personally think they would be nice.... BUUUUUUUUT....

Because ALL Golf R's will be subject to at least a few dollars in LCT, the cost of the Recaro seats, if they come in at the $4,000 as they currently do in the R32, will actually cost you.....

                    ...WAAAAAAIT FOR IT......

                    $5460!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(which will hopefully be standard in this country)

                        • Recaros in part suede would be better so you don't slip around, and doesn't crease like a mofo..

Or just fit Sportster CS, and escape some luxury tax.

                          • Yeah - you'd be far best to do that, buy them separately after the car.
Having said that - I personally find the standard GTI seat, whether in cloth or leather, plenty supportive enough, even for going around corners like a looney. I think that unless you actually also install a racing harness, which is illegal for road use, I think the standard GTI/R seats are practically as supportive as Recaros.

Btw - if we don't get leather seats as standard in the Golf R, expect the Recaro seats to be far more than the $4000 ($5460 'otr') they are in the R32. In the UK where the 'Black/Grey 'Kyalami' cloth' seats are standard for the Golf R, the Recaro seats are a £3230/£3485 option (3dr/5dr) as it includes the cost of the 'leather' upgrade for the door trim and rear seats. At current exchange rate that would be $5,822 to $6,281 - or a whopping $7947 to $8574 after LCT and stamp duties. *eek*

They're saying no discounts but who knows.

Yeah that will sway me against them. Not spending those dollars on seats when the stock leather ones will be more than adequate.
