Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah, scotchguard is good. If you can't afford to get a proper sealant, at least do that. But be clear, Scotchguard is a completely separate class of product to the above mentioned Fabric sealants. It's like comparing Armour-all quick detailer to a Swissvax Wax... both protect your car, but....

You clearly prefer the Nanolex or G/Techniq - what's your experience for the cloth seats??

I got a dealer to scotch guard my Jacky cloth when I tool delivery in July. So far so good. I use baby wipes to clean any marks or stains. Works very well.

I haven't used the Nanolex, but it's mainly cause I got my G|Techniq I1 from the UK and is in quite a large container and lasts for ages - especially since now I have leather seats, so it's only doing the carpet etc.

I wouldn't hesitate to use the Nanolex instead though.

            Seat covers. Keep?

            Hi All

Another thread, I'm so excited about getting my Golf and questions are running through my head.

The GTI i'm getting comes with really nice lambswool seat covers, but I really love the tartan and they might be a little too sensible looking for me. My girlfriend really likes them because they are so comfortable, but I'm not so sure!

Should I keep them and do you think there is a market for them if I were to sell?

            Cheers again!

            m~

I seriously doubt it, but hey, eBay is your friend. Have a look there.

Have a look through the http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...her-38988.html thread to see what people say about the longevity of cloth. If you're not happy with that, then use covers.

I dont mean to come across as being rude, but to me, Lambswool covers = old man / boring car. They are right at home in a beige Camry, but not in a GTi.

You may also want to make sure there is provision for the airbags to operate from the side bolsters of the seat in the event of an accident.

Put them on ebay and in the classifieds section and see if they sell. If they don't you're no worse off, assuming you didnt pay anything for them.

Haha, not my choice, but they are super comfy and somebody will like them I'm sure!

I had big chunky lambswool covers in my Type III fastback back in the day which I inherited from my brother when he decided they were "too old man" and took them out of his car (which he got from my mother who got it from her father.... so yeah old man car).

I loved those things, so comfy, so warm in winter (and not a problem in summer) sadly I gave them up to another family member when I decided they were too old man for my then "new" car I do miss them sometimes

But as everyone has said, they won't work with airbags.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

despite the old man image of them, there's really nothing better for comfort on either a hot or a cold day...
I say keep em and tell everyone that it's a hipster thing - that you were into lambswool seat covers before it was cool...

The answer to that is the range of "deploy safe" lambswool seat covers. I have two different styles on my two cars (both with seat airbags)

I am not sure how they would go on the GTI with the heavily bolstered seats as mine are on a 90TSI.

yeah I have some old ones in my van and they are just so comfy! Bear in mind I live in NQLD and even on the hottest days I wouldn't want to go without them.
