  • Hi Bakks,

I placed my car order from Victoria for $50,700 (excluding stamp duty and rego). I live in ACT where the rego for golf gti is around $900/year and stamp duty is 3% the value of the car. So, the total on-road cost is around $53,200 (ACT registered).
Sometimes it's cheaper to buy the car from interstate!
    Cheers,

WOW that is huge.. i thought our $570/year was a rip off.. that is just a joke in my view, or does the rego vary with the model of car? the figure i mentioned was what i paid for my old TDI.

      • The "Rego" in ACT includes NRMA CTP. However, $900 is a bit of an exaggeration. It's only $781.20 for the Polo GTI, Golf GTI or Golf R (or any other vehicles between 1155 and 1504kg).

        • Guys,

I checked with ACT rego office. For a Golf Gti, the rego is $894 - to be precise! Yes Corey, it does include the NRMA CTP. Corey your source of info is correct but the info on the website is not very accurate. I called them up and was told $894/year for golf gti!

I do not think that rego varies with the value of the car but with the weight of the car.

            • Hmmm.... well tell them to update their site then!
Or more importantly, I would be holding them to their advertised prices. $894 isn't a figure mentioned anywhere (unless you meant $849 and then that is valid if you're registering a Golf GTI for business use).

And yes, just like NSW, it's vehicle weight, not value. Value is for stamp duty, not registration.

              • I will talk to them about their advertised prices when my car arrives.

But the summary is basically nothing... just the removal of particular models and particular options.
Keep in mind that the MK6 was originally meant to be replaced by the MK7 in 2012...

                        • I went into VW to enquire about the Mk 6 and from now until the end of the financial year they are waiving all of road costs on stock currently here or arriving before end of the financial year. Sounds like a good deal, now to offload my Mk 5

                          • They haven't yet announced anything on that front...
Though it's quite likely, as it often happens.
It usually "excludes" quite a few models though....

                              Yep, same here in Brisbane.
One dealer tried to do me for a price $2000 above drive away (Boettcher), but two others (NMG and Austral) were upfront telling me within the first few seconds without even asking.
Drive away price on a 118TSI was pretty much RRP - 12% without even trying to haggle. Having said that I had no luck haggling.

It will be announced this week I believe. I know it includes the GTI, unsure of R as I didn't specifically ask. They did say that there will be no corporate discount and very little chance of haggling on the price.
