ok, but wat about current stock or low km demos, im talking 2010 build that for some reason r still sitting in yards. are dealers still gouging on these or r they being reasonable.
ive given up on the polo gti and will just get a golf gti, 3 or 5dr im not fussed, preferr white, carbon steel, or black
looking at the ones second hand on carsales, they still want low $40s for essentially basespec with little options. realistically, they should be high $30s.
i guess what im getting at is if dealersrdoing deals on current '10 models at mid or low $40s, then i might be better off buying it that way

^ as above, i went with the Polo GTi on a 1 year lease, figure that resale will be pretty good considering they are few and far between in comparison to the Golf GTi's > Plus cost of ownership is an inherent aspect of any leasing agreement, owning a car and driving is not a free ride, nothing comes for free, everything has a price.

There is certainly some bargaining to be done. I just collected a MY10 5dr, manual, Carbon Steel, Detoits + Tints for $42,500 on road. It was a 90km (1 test drive) old demo 8/10 build plate.
As I traded in an old P306, my change over was well south of $40k.
This was all done after I was told my Polo GTI order would not see delivery until 2012!MK6 MY10 Golf GTI, 5dr Manual, Carbon Steel, Detroits, Tint

I think RRP (without the usual Dealer Delivery & Stamp Duty etc.) as a drive away price is reasonable! They still make enough money!
I paid less than RRP as the drive away price, and I didn't qualify for a Corporate Discount.
... however, I have to wait until July!Now - MY17 Passat 206TSI Wagon - Tungsten Silver | Sunroof

Um no... they are paying less obviously
Because included in "drive away" costs, which is what you have to pay is:
$312 registration, which goes to the RTA (could be $459 if for business use)
$92 for the plain black text on white number plates, which goes to the RTA (could be as high as $400 if opting for Euro plates)
$461 for CTP which goes to Allianz (variable depending on person)
$1,785 of stamp duty which goes to the NSW Government.
Plus you have dealer delivery.
But my point is, those 4 items above come to a minimum of $2650 - none of that can be discounted as all of it goes to organisations which aren't VW or the dealer. You then have the dealer delivery, which varies from dealer to dealer, and contrary to most people's beliefs, not all of THAT goes to the dealers either (since it is actually more than a "car wash" and they have to pay various people, depending on which dealer it is again). Which is why corporate discount doesn't completely remove the dealer delivery and instead is $995.
So since the RRP without onroads is $51,160, and the above is $2650 and the dealer delivery (after corporate) is $995, that means that he's paying $2905 under RRP for the car. (51900-51160-2650-995=-2905)
So I'm not saying that the current dealer being offered is great - but at ~7.82% (using the calculator, total discount ~$4,405.00), it's not bad either.Last edited by Corey_R; 28-02-2011, 09:09 PM.

The Margin on the BASE car is $2,500 (apparently), which pretty much covers the "On Roads",
The "Hold Back" is around $1,500... all profit!
Options on the car are around 10%-20% mark up (apparently), and most cars have SOME options fitted (yes... they lose 3% on the Stamp Duty, but the rest is profit). By my calcs, the car has AT LEAST $800 in margin in the options on this car... most probably more!
I understand (from a VW dealer!) the "real" cost of Dealer Delivery is about $300 (man hours for a full PD, charged out at workshop rates and fuel) and,
Kash gets a corporate discount, not to mention if they hit target...
I figure they would be making at least $4,500 profit from the car on that deal, plus whatever bonus' are derived if they make targets.
I agree, everyone has to make a dollar, but there is a bit of competition out there if you look, and there will be a dealer out there who is willing to make a lot less than $4,500 on the deal, provided you are flexible with the options if you want a car now!
I don't know what others are paying for the car... I just know what I was prepared to pay and what I think is too much. Now - MY17 Passat 206TSI Wagon - Tungsten Silver | Sunroof

My 2c - a discount exceeding 7% for a car in stock is not a bad deal. kash_0 might be able to manage a better deal, but either way, I personally wouldn't be disappointed with that price.Last edited by AdamD; 28-02-2011, 09:48 PM.2008 MkV Volkswagen Golf R32 DSG
