Dear All, im glad to meet you here everyone, you posts are really hepful for me, i am a first time new car buyer, i want to buy a vw brand car for my marrige, actually it is for my girlfriend, but i m wondering to buy a new 2010 Jetta 125TDI or a 147TSI? and also we went to test drive of the new Golf GTi, we are loving it, the feeling we you are driving it, just so good and so much fun. so I am thinking maybe can buy a GTi instead of Jetta.
So what's you choice? by consider the resale rate, i m not too sure about new Jetta, but GTi seems can reach 67% three yrs later, this is high.
so what is your recommdation?
meanwhile, how to get a corp disc.? what kind of buyer are eligible for this, and how do i say to dealer? my gf is working in Westpac, her staff benefits pkg point us to Inchcape Protected if we want a deal for VW. but actually i want to make a deal by myself.
I dont mind to travel interstate to buy a car, such as QLD, NSW, i am living in VIC anyway. please help me...
thank you very much and happy new year!

I had a 147TSI Jetta and can highly reccomend the car, a great drive. Mechanically it is virtually identical to the GTI but a little heavier so has almost the performance characteristics of the GTI but in a sedan body. The suspension is also not as sporty but it's not bad at all. It all comes down to whether you want a hatch or a sedan.

I have reservations about a retained value of 67% after three years, especially at this time of low resale values generally. If I had resale value as my main priority, I would not have bought either the Jetta or my current EOS, but then I bought the car for the pleasure of driving it.
Cheers

As George says - it depends on whether you (or more pragmatically, your GF) prefers a sedan or a hatch.
As far as resale value goes, I won't be surprised if Mk V s'hand values drop a bit now that the Mk 6 Golf is out (Mk V GTI s'hand values were artificially high for quite while due to limited supply initially).
Probably the best value for money (from a total ownership cost viewpoint) is a 2-3 year old s'hand car, as the previous owner has taken the big hit for depreciation on a new car (but then you don't get to drive a brand spanking new one).
To be brutally honest if resale and ownership cost was more important than the drive it should probably be Japanese (or even Korean) rather than European.
If you are interested in costs, discounts etc on new Mk 6 Golfs there a several threads on here that discuss these topics in great detail.

thank you everyone for your kind response, i am not worry about the european car resale rate, but just among GTi and Jetta, but looks they are pretty same if i go for Highline model of Jetta, why no one rec. the TDi one? does diesel engine not good?
i been watch this fourm for few days, i read the spread sheet of golf's final price collection, it is helpful, gave me some hints, however, how do i know if i have a corp. discount?
my target is shifting to GTi... as my GF thinks it is cool for young ppl, Jetta not stylish enough, whatever, both for me is fine.
I am doing my homework by doing some research now, and try to get 15% off as start point, my target is
with
5 Door DSG
Metalic Paint
Sunroof
Park Assist
RNS510
Bi-Xenon light
ACC
MDI
Around 47000 drive away, not sure for this price, i may have a try.
or i may try to get a Jetta for a similar optional fitting, because i think the Jetta highline starts rrp is lower than a GTi.

test drive Black metalic paint, i thought it would be too ....black, so i may be go for a Carbon Steel???
may i know your price? and any options?
Yes carbon steel is amazinggg. I got it for 46g with rear parking sensors as the only option I'm pretty sure. Got the cloth interior and it's got the DSG. Oh and it has the acc and mdi
"I just want to make it that little bit better, and little bit more unique."
Buy the Jetta only if you're going to use the boot. Honestly (and obviously), that's the only benefit of the sedan.
For some strange reason, I bought a Jetta thinking I'd be using the boot a lot more. Now that I've had it for almost a year, I've come to realise I should've bought a GT TDI instead
Ps. A tuned 125TDI is a good alternative to the 147TSI.

thank you for your advise~~i have not test drive the Jetta yet, i just consider that the TDi is more fuel eff., and 125kw power not too bad

I am biased, but I would buy the Jetta.I think its the best value for money on the market.
However you should drive them both, and deceide for yourself which one you will be happier with.
But you will probably love them both.
According to Wheels magazine November 2009,Jetta 147 TSI has best in class resale value, retaining 70 percent of its origional valus after 3 years.
and unless you absolutely want it brand new, most novated lease programs will allow you to acquire a used vehicle so long as when the lease ends, the vehicle is not more than 5 years old. And they typically have a pool of cars from previous leases so you don't even have to F-around w/dealers.
