What made you decide to leave the diesel camp and return to unleaded crowd?
I thought I told you to ignore the username!
Actually didn't get the Pacific TDI for a few reasons.. the main one being that the dealership wasn't showing much movement on the price, and the Mrs preferred another car (pretty much entirely based on looks!).
So I didn't actually enter the diesel camp, though I'd been keenly eyeing off the new Golf for a little while now. After driving it today with the DSG we were both sold. It also offers excellent fuel economy which further sealed the deal.
And because of the smart combo of the super and turbo chargers it still has that elastic band style acceleration quality of the TDI ....
AND it revs like a champ.
AND the fuel economy is line ball with the diesel.
AND it is much more refined that the TDI.
AND the fuel pumps are clean.
AND it is faster.
AND the lighter engine means better handling balance.
AND it doesn't rattle at idle.
AND it is cheaper.
Seriously, I don't know how VW sell a TDI. That TDI engine is way too old now. The game has moved on.
Also, what is the difference btw "iPod cables" and MDI ?
Think of the whole contraption as two separate modules. You have the MDI which is part of your car and extends as a wire in either your glovebox or center console which ends in a proprietary socket, and attached to that socket you have any number of cables - iPod connector, USB etc.
This was mine. I dealed mine @ chatswood classic cars (henry)

Thanks!
Got the same price on a Shark blue with MDI and mats and sports package, though not sure if it has the Ipod cable. $34650 with corporate discount though!
Went to a dealer recently to negotiate a price on a 118 TSI Comfortline + various options. Drive-away price was around 46,5. Absolute best I could negotiate at the time was 42k (including Corporate Discount) approved by the Sales Manager.
I was straight up and said I am pretty sure I can get a better price than that (not having negotiated with other dealers at that stage). The salesperson I dealt with asked me if that was around the mark of what I was hoping for off the drive-away price, and I said I was pretty sure I am able to get a better deal, if not at this dealer, then elsewhere. He was adamant that this was the absolute best price I would be able to get in Australia and asked me why I thought I would be able to negotiate a better price. Before I had a chance to answer he asked me if I had been reading online forums regarding dealer negotiations and asked have these people actually bought the cars they are talking about? He then said that he has somehow dispelled the 'myth' to other customers of the kind of percentage discounts you guys have received. It sounded pretty sus to me ie. I didn't believe him, but I didn't bother to ask him to explain it to me. Probably should have though in hindsight.
Anyway, I said yes to doing some research on forums, but not only have I been getting ideas online, I also had a friend who purchased a vehicle from that dealership not long ago and received a better discount than me. He assured me that I was getting a better deal. I stood firm and said I would not put pen to paper until I contact other dealers to see if they can beat the price quoted to me.
