How to track the car you have ordered?

Not exactly sure how delivery works once the car docks, but im guessing it would take a day or 2 at the docks while all necessary work is carried out there before being loaded up on the truck and delivered to the dealer. Then another 1-2 days at the dealer before handover to the buyer. The Melbourne docks are literally no more then an hour from my dealership so im hoping to have the car within a week of it docking in Melbourne. Does that sound right?

My car arrived on the Toreador @ Port Kembla on the 8th. According to the dealer it made it into the VW system on the 11th and it just finished compliance certification with Patricks on the 18th. After hearing that Silver Fox had been given a delivery date, I rang my dealer, was given the info above but no delivery date. In my head I had always hped for 3 weeks delivey from landing so if is available for pick up on the 30th that will be ok. Anything earlier would be a bonus. Anything later......well I guess I will just have to wait....I've had lots of practice.

I was just looking at your location, probably working through next shipment.. I am much closer to the docks and it is a big dealership. I would hazard a guess your dealer is still waiting confirmation.. I feel your frustration.. we have waited the longest with the least amount of info and then you see me get advised.. anyway I aint counting my chickens just yet

thanks all, i went in today and spoke to the assistant sales manager, he got the sales person to chase up stock control and guess what, the VIN has been there since late last month. check point date was 11/05/11, i am hoping it will be on the ship by mid next month and delivery early August. i am hoping it will be earlier but i doubt it.

A perfect example of how dealers really don't try hard to service the customer once the deposit has been taken. Low expectations means zero disappointment

Does anyone know what happen to our cars once they leave the docks? Do they go directly to the dealer? Mine arrived last week in Fremantle, but today I notice its not at the docks anymore? Who and what is this "Patricks" everyone talks about?

How do you know it has left the docks?

Patricks is a car importer, transport and compliance company. They are responsible for doing all the paper work and sticking the compliance plate on the car and ultimately getting it to the dealer for sale.

Guys - I have the feeling the dealer is ****ing me around with delivery of my car! Initially he told me 24th May, however he has now pushed it back to end of May. According to him the Car landed in Bris a week ago, however he cannot tell me how long it takes to clear customs etc etc. In your experience, has the car taken much time to clear ports and do pre delivery stuff before you can pick it up??

well the time difference between the 24th and the 30th is a week so it is not like it is months.. generally it is at Patricks for 10 days then they have to get it delivered. The Dealer tells me that they have no idea until Patrick's ring them to tell them what truck and day it is being delivered. Once that happens they are in control.

my guess is your dealer is still waiting for the call and was guessing when you would have it

Gonzo, about 3 weeks from ship landing is quite normal. Outside that, make some noise.

Since you said customs etc etc, and the other guys have mentioned Patricks, which is compliance, I thought I would point out that even before Patricks do compliance, sometimes Customs and Quarantine can hold up a shipment of cars. If Customs/Quarantine find something on a vessel, they can isolate cars for a certain period of time. I haven't heard of a car shipment being quarantined thus far this year, but there were a few earlier last yeah.


But like the other guys here are saying, the dealer has no control of Customs, Quarantine, or Patricks Compliance. So until they get the call, they're practically just as in the dark as you are.

Do you know which boat it was on? Mine was on the TAIKO which docked on the 19th.
I am seriously not expecting it till the end of the 1st or 2nd week in June.
If your car landed in Brisbane a week ago, I can't see how they can get it processed by tomorrow as it takes a good 7-10 days in processing before it's even sent to the dealer.

You may also have to factor in that Patricks are talking about striking again.
They only mentioned containers, but it could affect cars as well.
