How to track the car you have ordered?

My ship docked on Sunday and I got the call today! I'm picking the car up on Thursday morning .

Thats a quick turn around from docking to pickup.
My dealer said it averages 15-20 (working?) days from dock to delivery.

Mine is on the TAIKO which docked on the 19th, so I am not expecting it till mid July at the moment.

Got my VIN number today! They told me it's still on target for a September delivery...does it really take that long in transit??

I have a build date week 20 and I am expecting the VIN next week (week 21), dealer stated car will be in the country no later than week 26 (end of June) and in my hands well before end July (week 30). Once I have a VIN I will know what boat it is on to confirm transit.

I am not getting a Golf but another yet to be released model in VW's line-up, still that long for the transit phase is a bit rude. The only thing I could think the delay is about is that VW need to flood the dealers with newer models to show off and the poor ones who spec ordered have been queue jumped.

Not exactly sure how delivery works once the car docks, but im guessing it would take a day or 2 at the docks while all necessary work is carried out there before being loaded up on the truck and delivered to the dealer. Then another 1-2 days at the dealer before handover to the buyer. The Melbourne docks are literally no more then an hour from my dealership so im hoping to have the car within a week of it docking in Melbourne. Does that sound right?

Mine landed at Port Kembla on the 8th of this month and is due to be delivered on the 26th .. a week sounds amazing

Agreed, everything I have heard is that it takes a good 2-3 weeks once docking.

I ordered my Golf R in March and my slack ass salesperson says he still does not have the VIN, i need by car by the first week of August. I am planning in on going Monday and speaking to the sales manager, as i have tried 4 times and get the same answer. If i dont get an answer in the next month, i am half in mind to cancel the order and pick one off the floor from melbourne or Sydney. Barlowworld in melbourne are hopeless.

Was it one that the dealer pre-ordered? If not, ordering in March and not having the VIN two months later is pretty normal. And getting it in August is also pretty optimistic if it wasn't already ordered by the dealer.

If it helps. I ordered end of Jan. Car finished build last week and i was given VIN after the stage "Checkpoint 8 delivery to sales". Car goes to water in next two weeks for arrival mid July.

Hey langers, I order end of Jan also. My car is at the dock waiting to be loaded onto a ship. I guess our R's will be on the same ship.

Hey silver fox...seems I ordered mine similar time to you and my car was on the Toreador as well. I know it docked sunday the 8th and I have been in to see the dealer last weekend and all they keep saying is "anyday now"....did they give you the definite day of this thursday??? Which dealer did you use?...Mine from Paul Wakeling and they have not been the best with customer service so far. I also pointed out to them that a grey R in the showroom that was sold had a gutter scrape under the front spoiler and they basically ignored me. This long wait will be worth it but to me it seems unjustified.

Yes it is booked in for this Thursday morning pick up at 10am. They have sent me the email with how I need to pay under what conditions yada yada yada.. I ordered mine through Denlo at Parramatta, if it is any consolation service from dealers is a pipe dream, really it is really bad or in line with Bunnings. I would rate mine Bunnings

My sense of it is the dealers are in the dark most of the time , however I think this is through choice rather than circumstance.

As for their care factor about their showroom stock it is probably demo and before they sell it will have it cleaned up.

I work for a major financial institution and service delivery ( which covers much ) makes up 40% of my bonus and this is mapped against internal survey's and external institutions 4 times a year. I assure you I know a lot about customer service , measurements and behaviors and the car sales industry does not really consider this as a differentiator they believe it is product. So whilst you believe for the coin you are parting with that your treatment should be greater than it is your rep believes the proof is in the eating not in the baking
