How to track the car you have ordered?

Dude! Dont' go posting your VIN in the public forum... that's your cars identification! hehe
Anyway - be patient. The number won't work on the tracking site until your car is being driven up the ramp onto the ship. The literally stop at the base of the ramp to scan in the tracking details then.

Cheers for that, wasnt sure there was an issue with people knowing the number.

Did the number look correct?

The VW dealer refuses to send me to screen dump (im aware its his right to not send it)

So just trying to get ontop of tracking.

I've been tracking my ship 4 times a day since the 26 January. Since yesterday, Marine Traffic is down, I'm starting to go mental. Another 2.5 weeks for it to dock in Melbourne!

Don't stress mate. It is on track.

Ship will show up tomorrow evening at South Africa port provided the Marine Traffic site is back up.

I ordered mine on the weekend. - 5th Feb 2011.

When should I get the email / contact from my dealer with info so I can track - vin number etc. The eta on my car is 6 months.

I know it will be some time but not sure how long..

Any suggestions??

Hey mate....not to put a damper on things but I ordered my R on sept 16th 2010. They told me it would be 6 months but called me a few weeks ago to tell me it would not be here till May 11th 2011 which is damn close to 8 months!!!!
I emailed to get the VIN number today....should they have it already??? Chin up....dont think I can read any more reviews or see any more youtube reviews....so over the wait.

Damn - a wee bit too long there... - That's with the R though. Hope mine isn't like that. Will have to wait a few months before I get a vin to see.

Wow that is a long wait - I ordered mine on 30th October (1 month after you) and mine is already on a boat and expecting delivery is 30th March...

To give a current indication of where things are at for ordering GTI's. For me it was:

- 30/10/10 Ordered GTI at dealership
- Built at factory week 50 day 4
- 28/12/10 Loaded on boat and sailed from Germany
- 08/02/10 Arrived and off loaded in Sydney (Port Kembla)

- Im expecting pick up within the next 10 days odd.

All up a 4 month process which by all accounts is pretty much the norm at the moment.

I was told 6 months also. But id say they will always overstate the timeframe for the customer so as to avoid dissapointment should any delays arise.

Exactly right. Nothing is certain until you get a build week allocated.

After that, fingers crossed, it is a smoother, more certain timeline to delivery date.

No reply for me on VIN number yet but talked to a 'VW fan' today and they said that they do 'RUNS' of cars with certain options,colours etc and when I told them about my options they said mine was not a 'typical order'.
Ordered : Golf R, DSG ,3 door,rising blue,sunroof,sat nav, recaros,19 inch Taladegas,MDI....
A fair few options agreed but cant appreciate the logic of a longer wait.
