No reply for me on VIN number yet but talked to a 'VW fan' today and they said that they do 'RUNS' of cars with certain options, colours etc and when I told them about my options they said mine was not a 'typical order'.
Ordered : Golf R, DSG ,3 door,rising blue,sunroof,sat nav, recaros,19 inch Taladegas,MDI....
A fair few options agreed but cant appreciate the logic of a longer wait.
sman66 see my post here,
you could be waiting till second half of this year if they cant provide a build date confirmation for you.
Hey Big Dave...You may well be able to read the future...
I bought the car through a broker but have had contact with the dealer as well.
My broker just emailed me that the delivery was now estimated to be around 30th June!!!!! originally beginning of March...that is the second time they have delayed the date and that is almost 10 months!!!! I will be calling the dealer tomorrow and give them a bit of 'what for'..
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues, ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
A bit fed up really and thinking of cancelling the order and going straight through a dealer.....maybe not wise, but I am really pissed!
sman66, no build date means no joy for Jun ETA as well. Have you seen your order ETA data? If not, I suggest you visit the dealer concerned and get a peek at that screen in person.
In parallel, ring around and see if there are cancelled orders that is similar to your specs.
OOOOOPS.
Thank you markwid....not looking good for me then. Will call today and see what some forceful persuasion can do.
Your car seems to be arriving in a reasonable amount of time. Wonder why people with R's need to wait longer. What perhaps for me is most annoying is that they were not honest about an ETA. Customer service seems to be lacking somewhat and I have not received even an apology for the delay.

Good luck sman66. Hope you get it sorted. Maybe find yourself a cancelled order that suits you and is on its way. Apparently, non-metro dealers may have orders not sold yet.
As to long waits for R's, common wisdom around here is demand > planned supply. Constraint in supply of some parts has been suggested as the culprit. Similar situation is happening to new model Polo.
If you are sticking with your factory order, build date is key in figuring out ETA. Once past that bottleneck, the other things that needs to happen can flow smoothly.

How long after you have ordered will the dealer have a build date to tell you?
I went to the dealership today and found out that the broker had only passed on the order to them a month after I paid my deposit...so the 23rd october 2011.
The dealer showed me the screen that said final assemby 22/3 at the bottom it had arrive Australia 27/5. The dealer told me I would definitely have it within about 10 days of this date.
He also told me any orders made now on golf R's or polo GTi's were being quoted a 12 month wait...it seems that demand is far outstripped by
supply despite the factory having a 23hour day.
So lessons learnt are : NEVER use a broker again and Patience is a virtue grrrrrrr!

So i just got my NADCON screenshot for the ETA data and i have a few questions.
I understand that the dates listed per line can and very well may vary. For those of you that have taken delivery of their cars, how accurate are those dates?
On the first page of this thread it says
"A VIN number will only be allocated when the car is handed to production. It should be available to your detail at "Checkpoint 8" which is Step 15 of the list below."
If my NADCON screenshot says that checkpoint 8 handover was on 16/2/11 does that mean i should already have a VIN assigned? If so is the VIN displayed on the NADCON screenshot because i don't see it anywhere.
"Arrival at final destination" would I be correct in assuming that is the port that it arrives at in Australia?

ETA means ESTIMATED Time of Arrival. So really, that should answer the question for you. They're estimates. Rough guides. How "accurate" will vary on many things. No point really going any further than that.

NADCON is an application. There are many screens. It would be on the Order > Order Details > Car Configurator screen.

The VIN number is straight under the Checkpoint Date on the NADCON Extended Information Screen and is labelled Chassis Number and if you have a Checkpoint 8 Date you should have the Chassis number. My Checkpoint Date was 8/2/2011 and my GTI is now sitting on the docks at Bremerhaven hopefully hitching a ride on Torino which is in port loading at the moment.

You're best to ask the dealer for what I said above. There is no "Extended Information" Screen - that is simply a table towards the bottom of the "Order > Order Details > Car Configurator" as I mentioned in my post above!
I was only provided screenshots of the "order - ETA data" and "order - Order details" screens.
See my quote above. If you've already been given some info from the "Order Details" screen, make sure your dealer then goes to the "Car Configurator" screen (if it's not already there) and then scroll down to almost the bottom. The "Extended Information" table is the 2nd bottom table.
The Queen Sapphire is almost here!
