Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My experience is so far is it's been 16 days since my car arrived at the docks and the dealer either received it today or gets it tomorrow, which means I could get it Friday

Take out 2 weekends and there's your 12 business days to the dealer. It's also a week after others whose cars were on the same boat including some in NSW who are taking delivery before me. Short story - it's seems pretty variable and anywhere within a 10 day/3 week time frame.

Boat arrived Wednesday, dealer emailed me first thing this morning saying that Patricks received it on Friday.

        • 3 days is about right, but patricks had my car for about 5 working days from memory...
then the dealer had it for 2-3working days,
(i had my MDI fitted by the dealership, which may have added a little)

bank on 3 weeks from the "arrival at port" date.
If it comes sooner, it's a nice surprise.

Yeah in the long run money wise its probably better to have waited that extra few weeks and get it in Jan, however not so much for our sanity! lol

            • Depends which way you look at it...
might help you to sell it,
Lets say it's delivered in Dec and you sell in Jan 2012,
most people would assume 50,000k's is reasonable, even though it's only 14months old..

They might compare it to a Jan 2011 car with the same k's and think that your one is older, but has had an easier life...

                • I got a call on Monday and my dealer has my car sitting in his holding yard I just need to tell him when I want to pick it up. My first response was now except I have to wait for my leasing company So hopefully either this weekend or early next week.

Hey another leaser. I'm leasing my R through work too. I might call the leasing company as soon as my R docks in Melbourne at the end of Dec and make sure they are on the ball. Hopefully not too much more paperwork etc involved before pickup lol!

I've leased a few cars in my time. My experience is that:
                        1. Have your finance company make contact with dealer now, and they'll request an invoice (I did when the ship was a few days from docking)
                        2. Then make sure you sign your finance ducumentation (I signed when car was in Patricks for compliance)
                        3. Ensure you have an insurance certificate of currency for the vehicle and must show the finance company's name 'as having an interest' (insured straight after finance papers signed)
                        4. Have the finance company direct deposit funds to dealer the day before you want to collect car (that way there's not last minute hold-ups)

Usually this can be done within a week, just get it ready in advance - so you can enjoy what youv'e been waiting a very, very long time for!
In my garage: Golf R20 Rising Blue, 5dr, 6sp man, Leather, Sunroof, Sat Nav, Bluetooth, DynAudio, MDI & Roof Racks for my board!

Cheers mate! Thanks for the advice. I have contacted the lease company to get a rundown on what I need to do and also reminded them of when the car gets in to Melbourne. Will contact them again a few days before as well

Sounds good to me. Maybe we could throw in a POLO and go inter-model?
