Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    - 80k service + timing belt and water pump replacement

A few unexpected expenses but all quality work done. Should enjoy much better grip over the winter months.
A bit early to do the timing belt isn't it?

I suppose better safe than sorry.

What brand belt/kit and pump you get?

105,00km or 5 years (was 4 years at one point) - so he's a couple of years over (in theory)

      • I thought VW's recommendation was 7 years or 105k (15k per year).

I did my 90k service for my GTI at 6 years at a VW dealer and no mention was made about the timing belt.

Ended up doing the 105k service including timing belt at 8 years at an independent.

          /shrugs shoulders

So many different time spans are thrown around. I'm just saying why I think he had it done before the 105km. The consistent time frame I keep getting from techos is 5 years. YMMV.

          • Well it was coming up to almost 7 years since manufacture, and it was recommended by the mechanic figure it was good to get it all done since the car was up for its service.

My understanding was that it was 6 or 7 years or 105k for the timing belt.

              • Took a while to receive it, worth the wait. Had it installed yesterday.

Thanks. It took 9 weeks to arrive, massive back orders. They make custom items for the euro cars. I was going to fit a 60mm gauge in it but couldn't find one I liked.
It's the beginning on what I'm going to do to the car. Next up is to flash the ECU. Don't know where to go yet.

Got my Jetta on the Dyno for a power run yesterday, still putting out consistent power

Torque was roughly 427nm not 709nm as indicated on printout

                          • Just changed over the headlights & spots last weekend. After 7 years of highway driving, they were a bit tired. This weekends mission is the LED taillight upgrade! Wish me luck...
