Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

          Hey Greg32,

Can you tell me where you got your buttons from? I like the USB presentation and I assume the one to the right is for your garage door. Neat integration.

I found the USB on ebay. I have wired it up with the guts from a lighter socket charger just to power usb items and tapped into the wires for the cigarette socket. The garage button is used for my front gate. I bought the garage and R32 buttons from a company in Germany but cant remember their name. Others have bought the buttons and switches from them so hopefully, someone will chime in.

            • I spent the day fitting these alloy Passat knuckles into my R32 replacing the iron units.

              And a picture fitted

I bent a sidchrome T-bar and twisted a 1/2" extension trying to remove the CV bolts. I then went and bought a kincrome bar Next is to book in for a wheel alignment as the toe out is a bit much from my crude checks

What was the weight saving with those?

                  Any other advantages besides weight?

Are the knuckles interchangeable throughout the Golf range or just passat/R32?

Along with the Superpro LCAs, I have saved a few kilos each side. There was a noticable difference in the weight of the knuckles compared to the standard iron units. They are interchangeable depending on the brakes. The R32 and I think GTi are OK. Cars with small brakes interfere from what I have read. The geometry is almost identical to the golf so they work well. The Audi TT knuckles and LCAs have some challenges fitting but have the adjustable ball joint. As I have KW V3s with top camber plates, the TT stuff would be overkill. I have only driven to work today but still need an alignment and a good drive to see the real difference.

Very easy install, the hardest bit was soldering the 2 wires onto my garage remote, not hard really just fiddly
