Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Hello to all Dubbers
I have an Issue that has me buggered. My Mk5 2005 has 185,000km...Full service history by VW, since purchasing the car 18 months ago, did the water pump, timing belt, Transmission service. My Maintenance schedule is very tight.
I noticed some type of oil substance in my expansion coolant bottle.
Did the usual system flush and seem ok for an hr or so.
The merk filled the bottle shortly after. I had the "Check Coolant level" on the MFD. I checked the level and it was to the tip of the probes.
I have check the oil, no traces of water, under the Oil cap, no milkshake substance.

I pull the entire front of my MK5 apart, stripped the radiator and re flushed the system 5 hrs of flushing. What an exercise only to have the bottle fill with merk again. (Smells like oil, feels like oil). I do have some oil consumption at 7500km from the last oil service down a little.

Has anybody ever heard or come across this issue?
I really am calling out to all for information please, truly like my MK 5
      Regards
      Charles

      • Put my old CHEDDO plates on the Golf about 2 weeks ago - have been in storage since 2006, company cars don't like personalised plates

Pulled my center dash and radio apart today looking for a very annoying rattle:

Finally found the rattle was actually my eTag and stick-on bracket on the windscreen - I was furious..........

Are you ever going to come to a meet so we can see all the stuff you've done?

                  • Not today, but last weekend.

Towed the mini from Adelaide to Hay and back for the Hay Mini Nationals. Finished the dirt motorkhana 16th outright and 1st in Class A.

Klaus the aptly named Jetta towed great - easily kept 115kmh the whole way and used just 11litres/100kms.

Hit a 'roo on the way home whilst coming through Balranald and came away unscathed!
