    • I thought to myself, before I ordered my ST3, "I'm taking a bit of a risk !!!".

Not only did I think it, but quoting my wife she said "If you get in trouble warranty wise, you'll be in bigger sh#t from me than Volkswagen could ever give you".

But, I thought, "F#ck it". I know I could get caught and VW could strap me to a chair with thumb screws and poke screw-drivers into my eyes and then it would be my wife's turn. But I thought that little bit of fun from a bit more power would be worth it. I want to be a risk taker.

If you're not prepared to take some risk, then don't do it. But remember, most things that are enjoyable include risk.

        • Its not sudden failure thats the issue , its more wearing out the clutch packs prematurely

Thats good news for DSG owners & tuners!

or driving like a maniac in an unchipped car... i think the way you drive would have a lot more to do with clutch wear than power output..

But isn't replacing the clutches a more expensive job on the dsg?

Isn't the DSG a more expensive option at the time of purchase?

Isn't the DSG also going to have consistent changes unlike a manual which may wear out two clutches in the same time or more due to misuse?

It's not really relevant if replacing the clutches is more expensive if they last longer and people are aware that it's a much more complex gearbox.

                  • Who knows,

Will space travel be cheaper than car travel ?

Will we have global warming or another ice age?

We have done hundreds & hundreds of DSG gearbox GTI's with upgrades since August 2005, and never heard of a single replacement or repair, even the K04 (S3) kits we are selling are mostly going onto older 05' GTI's with high K's are still not having problems.

Already you can buy OE internal parts for the DSG gearboxes.

I think the highest K's on one of our tuned DSG cars is 140,000 + (last I saw it). No DSG issues at all & the owner doesnt treat it with any respect at all (gets about 12,000km's out of tyres )

I would have no problem installing our 240kw S3 kit on a DSG any day.

As you all know - the factory warranty (for any car) does not cover wear & tear items & clutches fall into this category (same as brake pads & tyres)

                    Any way - its O'clock!

                    • Further impressions on the ST3

Having the ST3 now for about a week - i still have it on the Economy map.
I can't say that I can actually pick any improvement in economy, but the power delivery is noticeably better.
                      Mid range is much better.

How good is the fast road map going to be?
Well I won't know until Chipped sort out the issue with the flash counter.

Now that i have my vag-comm I can confim that the flash counter has increased, and don't want to continue flashing it until the issue is sorted.

I emailed ChippedUK last night and, much to my surprise I got a response overnight, which is very good considering it was sent on a sunday.

                      The response was
"Hi there, We are working on a solution to the flash counter issue on some of the Australian ecu`s.We have not seen the same issue with the cars within the UK and Europe. We will announce a solution on our news site on our website in the next week if all goes to plan."

If you are still under warranty and are worried about the flash counter I would hold off ordering an ST3 until this issue is resolved.
