Ordered mine this morning, I'll try to contain my excitement a bit and document the experience when it arrives
It will be hard.
It really is great, Im loving mine even more and more now after a couple of days driving.
Its just got so much more grunt through a wider rev range yet its so smooth except for a slight blip of boost i get when it changes from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th but this is due to throttle position and the revs at the time of the gear change. If i go with slightly less throttle or slightly more then it is not there.
ChippedUK are looking into it for me nonetheless.
The economy is better too . I got 5.6l/100km driving to work yesterday and that still included a couple of blasts away from the lights.
Im very impressed but the guy in his AUII XR6 ute wasnt.
(This will make Greg happy)
Dumbmonkey, Can you update your signature so i can see what youre driving.
Still stock black GT Sport TDI DSG, the only thing I have had done is window tinting. I am stupidly happy with the car, but more power couldn't hurt, right?

Definitely go for the fast road, it's brilliant. Having tested the 'Economy' map over the last 3 days, I would advise that you go for one of the track maps instead, as the economy map does not have the performance of the fast road map (as expected), and does not appear to provide any improvement in economy (if it does, it's very slight).
Mine arrived just now, will take some pictures of the grand un-boxing etc... But which maps to ask for hmmmm?
Can someone post The web site where you order the ST3 Please?
I'm still torn between the APR ECU upgrade and the ST3.
I checked out Guy's setup but ultimately we are talking about $1000 difference in price.
Pros: APR is here and can help with problems, Seem to have worked well for GTI.
Cons: Price; What else????
For $620 landed, I'm thrilled with mine - though I only got it yesterday.
I'm still only on the economy map, as i suspect I won't go back once i've tried fast road
But then again, I only got to open it up once on the way to work today - for about 150m - traffic was that bad. So maybe the economy map will be a good compromise as my daily map. Time and testing will tell.
I will endeavour to do some more "real world" type tests next week. Perhaps 20-80 in second & 40-110 in third, so that wheel spin, launch technique and gear changes don't play such a big part in the equation (as they would for 0-100).
If I graph acceleration against rpm, based on the speed vs...
If my car wasn't under warranty then the ability with APR to change the maps from the cruise control, and to have valet and anti theft mode might have made it worth the extra cost.
But for me, the main consideration in choosing the ST3 was that I can put the real original map in if the car goes in under warranty, not just the tuners interpretation of the standard map.
And with the price difference I can easily afford vag-comm
07 Golf GTI 3 door, Tornado red, 6 speed Manual Red may be the devils colour, but this car is pure heaven

That advice was a few hours too late.
I'll let you know if you are right in about 2 weeks.

Actually the APR stock map is identical to the Factory map, and we have tested this with the genuine VW diagnostic tools at a dealership - so its not "an interpretation" of a standard map.
I'm happy for you to explain to me what you mean by this (not having a go at you, but posting mis information is a different issue).
One thing you are forgetting is your flash counter is increasing every time you swap a map. VW have started tracking this to check who has had the factory recalls & had the factory update - let alone throwing fault codes though the system when you change maps which forces you to purchase a diagnostic interface to clear all codes out before you go to the dealer.
Just two points I thought I would clear up for you.
Did you ever get a dyno from the UK or even a picture of a Golf on their dyno by chance?

Thanks for the clarification - I was lead to believe that the APR "standard" map wasn't identical (that story's been promoted on various forums over the last 12 months)

the ST3 is supposed to reset the flash counter - and tells me it's doing so toward the end of the flash process - but until I get my vag comm i won't know.

No, i didn't get the dyno sheets - though i didn't actually email them on this, only posted on golfmkv.com
I wanted the the graphs to get an idea of the difference between the different ST3 tunes to help me choose the most appropriate maps, so i wasn't sweating on them.
I will provide more feedback once the vag-comm turns up.
