Ab-sol-utely. I can pull up the number of times my car ECU has been reflashed on my VAG-COM, so unless the chip is stealth, I'm sure VW can find it. With the tinkering I've been doing, I've set off quite a few error codes, and they are pretty descriptive! Wouldn't be too hard for VW to quickly get a feel on what you've been messing with, and log that for you next warranty claim.

Correct - the way the Can Bus system works is by constant polling messages running between the ECU's (in a Golf V there is even an ECU in each door) - and to be able to program the ECU (from every method I have seen) you need to take the engine ECU "off line" into a programming mode. All the other ECU's then come back with communication errors when they fail to contact the engine ECU.
One of our local dealers has replaced several engine ECU's because of these messages (as the prognosis is sick engine ECU) and later on found out it was the engine ECU being flashed that caused it (not talking about any particular brand at all) - obviously since that time, the dealers & VW are a little more aware of it.

Of course, your ECU is a different type being diesel and all, but I can check yours at some stage too, before you go to the dealer.

Hi Guy,
Kudos as well from me for your great customer service - this is like the thousant thread I've seen you come in always with great enthusiasm and knowledge to share...
I've also purchased an ST3, I'm in Brisbane and I've considered purchasing VAGCOM but then after reading about all the hexadecimal codes and all, I decided it's not for me. My ST3 hasn't arrived yet, but I've recruited a mate from the forums who does have VAGCOM to give me a hand sometime; however I was wondering if you do offer VAGCOM consultancy - obviously I'd pay for the service - or do you just sell VAGCOM units? I wouldn't mind 1) checking all is good after ST3 install and 2) change a couple of options those guys with the full MFD get to do that I don't... I have to say I would have liked to get something from APR / OETTINGER due to the fact that Harding Performance seems to be right on the ball and happens to be in Brisbane, but I couldn't pass the ST3 promotional pricing...
PS: tried to visit your office a couple of weekends ago but I couldn't find it - silly Google Maps! It wasn't anything important, I just wanted to snoop around and get tempted by a few of the goodies you bring in (I was having a weak moment and wanted to find something car-related to buy... hehehe).Last edited by fbruxel; 04-06-2008, 04:06 PM.-

Hey Fbruxel,
We can help you out with your coding for a carton of beer (Coopers pale Ale is our favorite) - hard to catch us on the weekend, but we are generally here till 6-00pm or so in the evenings so just ring beforehand.
We do sell the Vag Coms, generally only sell them to the trade as we offer a support package, but pop in & we will see what we can do for you.
There is a sign on the front fence, but we are on a double block so the street numbers increment.

Its a good opportunity to get to use more Vag Com features though!
Cleared all these with VC and did another rescan and its all fine.
Stupid me though, should have tried to clear all the codes with the ST3. After all its meant to be able to. Might have to flash anothere map to generate the codes and then see if the ST3 can clear all of them.
If it does then users need to be aware, and should be told by the manufacturer, that codes must be cleared manually using the ST3 after flashing.
The impression given is that the unit clears these automatically which it doesnt.
At the moment i cant get advanced measuring blocks on my vag com. Its greayed out for some reason.??
I wanted to check EGT, requested boost and actual boost.

You should be able to access the normal measuring blocks & do as you wish in there though.

Im running the latest 805 version of VCDS.
I have the micro-CAN cable
There is no label file in existence for this engine.
Ive just been reading about the label files and will get the info from my car to send to ross tech so they can make the label file.
Its the no label file that greys out the advanced measuring blocks button.
