Well hopefully I am going to be one of the next in Brisbane to get my R32. According to the dealer I should get it mid Feb but the tracking site says it arrived on the docks in Brsibane last Saturday. Anyone have any experience with how long it typically takes from there?
Getting it from Austral to replace my WRX. Ordered in October.
Anyway its a 5 door RS2 with . . .
-DSG
-Sunroof
-Touch screen sat nav
- Bluetooth
- Rear parking sensors
Can't wait
that sounds great
i see that you also went for the touch screen navi. when, and with whom did you order?
thanks for that, my ears pricked up when you mentioned the new navi. i was curious as to what your total delivery time was.
my delivery was going to be march/april 08 when i ordered with highway vw on 24/12/07. since then i have been told that the wait will extend to may - because of the touch screen navi. an overall delivery time of approx. 5 months.
my ship docks on may the 9th, from what i have been told... but in the same breath i was told that i could not have a concrete delivery date as the car is yet to be built (?).
fwiw, and all are welcome to answer/comment...
i was provided with a commission number last friday 18/01/08, but i am yet to be provided with a vin. how much time elapsed between the order of your R32 (or any VW), and the dealer providing you with a vin?
is the vin able to be generated at time of order, or is it generated as the car rolls off the line?
thanks for your help
i know i can't make it arrive faster, i just don't want to have to wait any longer than i have to... having a vin would be reassuring.
i spoke to Hwy VW last week re my order at beginning of Dec 07. i was told my car will be built in the 6th week of 2008 (i specified 08 built) and should arrive to port on 25th Mar and hopefully getting the car in mid April.
no concrete delivery date, no VIN until the car is built and i didn't order the new navi.
Your dealer has access to an on line system which tells them what week of the year your car is to be built. My dealer gave me a copy of the printout form this system.
It also confirmed the factory where the car is to be built.

I too am about to go looking for a new Golf, and am after some advice as to who is worth seeing around Brisbane. As others have mentioned a good buying and after sales experience is more important than screwing that last buck out of the deal. For me personally, I'm happy to pay a bit more for better service.
So I'd LOVE some PM's, as I'd certainly like to narrow down the good and bad, and help a few of you poor bast@rds extract your revenge!
On a different note...
As someone that has been in sales for a long time now, you sometimes need to stop and consider the other side. No excuse for some of the experiences above, but I'm sure this isn't the first wank@r you've come across?? They're everywhere.....
I took a job at a car dealer many many moons ago....and left within 6 weeks! It is indeed that bad. My experience was that I was the dancing monkey between the sales manager ( who was out to get as much cash as possible, and that included playing ME ) and the client ( who was strung along and worn down and sat as long as possible ). Now I know my experience was about as bad as it can get, but in the 6 weeks I was there I sold 2 cars, made a whopping $38 out of each deal ( irrespective of sales price ), and actually talked about 24 people out of buying from this shonky dealer! It was the dumbest career move I have ever made....
You need to remember that anyone in sales that is honest, sincere, customer focused and simply good at what they do usually moves onwards and upwards, as they have many more options. It's kind of like seeing that 40 year old guy at KFC, you have to hope he's the owner.......?????
Seems it hasn't changed much, for the guy that sold me my last car in 2005 at $60k plus told me he gets $40 after tax out of the sale. Also it's generally paid the month AFTER delivery..so at a guess these VW sales staff are looking at May or so right now for that $40odd??? Sure it isn't all about the money, but that's hardly motivating when you work on a bonus scheme. You gotta live!
So believe me it's downright sad when I come across someone in the "game" that is all out for themselves, when I know all too well just how great sales can be at the higher end of things, where you don't actually sell as much as assist your friends. Sales becomes a "get to do" rather than a "have to do", and it becomes natural and effortless.
Their loss!

Wow, some sales people go through hell for their $40 and there are some who don't even deserve that.
If cars didn't just sell themselves maybe we'd be getting better service overall from all manufacturers. I started out saying that "if VWs didn't sell themselves", but most car purchased are emotional experiences and the dealer doesn't have to do too much convincing.
I bought a Jetta TDI - it's probably not high end as far as the dealer is concerned but it certainly is for me!
I honestly couldn't be bothered talking to them. I know I've convinced at least one person to buy a new dub elsewhere. When I reach 10, I'll reckon we're square
Oh and Riley, it's not just you.
The guy that owns the company I work for is a rather wealthy man, I have been told he's in the Australian top 10. Anyway, I got to play golf with him recently on our annual conference and we got chatting. He told me about how he ended up with the car he has.
He was out driving and saw the Merc dealer and decided to go shopping. He told me he was casually dressed having just finished a game of golf, and walked in. He found a big merc he liked and was prepared to pay cash then and there. The sales staff seemed disinterested, and when one finally came over and he asked when this particular model could be delivered, the sales guy scoffed at him and said " are you aware of the price? ". He left.
Further down the road he saw a Maserati dealer. He grabbed his golf clubs, walked in, and bought the one they fit in, cash. It's a very very nice car.
I wonder if he ever took it back to visit the Merc sales guy?

Vin issued to vehicle on assembly line, so you wont get it till after the car is built. Commission number is purely your order number. If you have build date ask dealer maybe several days after that for vin as it takes a few days for the factory to update system. Trust me not worth worrying about till when it gets here.. I stoopidly tried to track, watch & hassle things along.. even called Wolfsburg & South Africa.. car will get here sooner if you just let it go and dont worry about it
Just got my MY08 R32 5dr delivered. Really short in supply. Took me 3 months to order. But it is really good. I had that for 2 weeks already. I traded in my MKV GTI for the R32.
