I found that too, though the salesman I'm dealing with was very nice to me until I mentioned that I would go to where I would find either the car I wanted (MY07 /08 GTI 3door Silver Manual) at the best price. All up he has spent about an hour with me and I'll be happy to give him the sale if he can match the price I can get from dealers in Melb / Syd but he has sterted trying to guilt trip me into buying from him.

He also promised me a list of GTI's that are in the country so I could have a look through to see if there was one I was interested in, turned out he sent me an email saying theres one black one and one red left unsold.

BTW I'm a 20 yo uni student who is going to join th GTI ranks very soon.

Buy from wherever gives you the best deal, but remember if you are buying non-local you need to factor in any extra rigmarole of getting ACT rego onto your new car, plus transport costs if it isn't delivered to you.

As far as feeling guilty, why would you feel guilty ? You are giving him the opportunity to make money (by selling you a new car), if he doesn't want to take that opportunity then that's not your problem.

I don't think that he's going to lose a moments sleep about getting the highest price he can out of you. He's certainly not going to be racked with guilt so why should you?

I'm not feeling guilty, in the end I will go for the best price as I tihnk almost everyone would.

It's just a bit disappointing that a 'professional' has to guilt trip people into buying a car from them.

unfortunately i don't see "sales" or "agents" as professional.

Professionals are supposed to help you with advise but sales/agents are trying to sell you a product.

with professionals you are paying for their services, they should be on you side.

here you are paying for the goods, the sales are your "enemy" lol

Come on, not all salespeople are evil. If anyone has come across a sales person that isn't evil however, I'm sure we'd all like to hear about them!

what i mean "enemy" was that they act against your financial interest

i didn't mean they are bad/evil. they can still be decent people.

Yeah I didn't mean evil personally either. Just when they're in sales person mode trying to get as much as they can and not really caring about the end result.

Well... You do enjoy the car no? It makes you happy doesn't it? It looks good and is tasteful?

Well then, whats the matter? Its not really a guilt trip unless its something bad for you, and you are getting alot of benefits from the car and it will satisfy you for sure. Its not like heroin or something. Who am I to talk I'm just a sleazy marketing type !

Well the sales guy I purchased my GT Sport from was pretty good.. no BS and gave me best price straight up, which by the way no dealer in NSW could match. He even told he works on volume not margins so he discounts the vehicles straight off to sell more in a month and then gets his nice fat bonus from VW. I'd definately recommend him to anyone buying a VW, his name is Mark Diamond and works at Chatswood Classic Cars. He does work in the commerical division (vans etc) but he will sell you any model you like. I know whenever I 'll need another car I'll be going to him and wont even bother looking around and will accept the price he gives me, no problems.

I did receive an automated 'how can we help you further' email from Hwy VW a couple of weeks later and I responded by giving them both barrels. No response of course - and I didn't expect anything different. It's just too easy for these dropkicks to sell new VWs.

You're lucky, I never got to the test drive. The Highway VW salesboy made me sit down and answer a set of questions regarding who I was and where I lived. I also had to provide my driver's license for his inspection.

When I complained, he said:" Well it's like this - we are asking you into our home so we have to know who you are." All up, I found it to be a rather humiliating experience and one that I certainly never faced with Austral or Boettcher Motors (where I bought my Jetta). In fact, I got so annoyed with him I walked out.

And why did the idiot go out of his way to p*ss me off? I'm not an 18-year-old wanting to trash a GTI during a 10 minute test drive. I'm a 50-year-old businessman who just wanted to gauge the torgue of a VW TDI.
wow, that is terrible. with hwy vw i was able to test drive a GT TDI, a GTI, and an R32 with no issues at all.

i did not have to provide any financial/personal information to "qualify", and the test drives were very reasonable. i was able to have two test drives of each model on two occasions - and the test drives were a little spirited

i am a young(ish) guy (27), i was not overly dressed when i went in; converse low sneakers, long shorts and a polo shirt... my "r and r" uniform, hehe. i don't look like a punk, but then i don't look like a "suit" either. i was treated with courtesy and respect at all times. hmm.

                            interesting.

I wasn't wearing a suit but I was dressed in what I think is referred to as 'smart casual' .

But the really surprising part was when I had to grudgingly give the idiot my address - there was no flicker of recognition.

I live in one of Brisbane's most infamous streets - it's always featured in The Courier Mail's top 10 most expensive and I tend not to disclose where I live because of what it does to the price of anything you're looking at buying.

Actually, a neighbour suggested I go to Hwy VW because his son and daughter had both bought VWs there. I've since told him about my experience with w*nker central
