Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'd be interested in getting all your thoughts on the new wheels. I'm told that the factory can't substitute the Omanynt's for the Zolder's as the production run has already changed on the wheels. Have any of you guys got an idea what a set of Zolder's would be worth? The dealer is saying $770 a corner.

I like the new wheels. The older design was one of the few reservations I had about the R32.
I wouldn't be surprised if a little patience netted you someone with old design who likes the new, and vice versa, and a swap could be arranged.MY08 R32, DSG, Sunroof, RNS510

Aftermarket BBS' or OZ' are an option, especially at the quoted price from VW though I agree that someone out there would probably consider a straight swap (I'm in WA though so query how may R32's there are here and who would want to swap). I also agree with the comment about there being no point of paying for last years wheel, but (IMO) the R32 is "identified" by the Zolder's and try as I may, VW can't supply an MY08 with them nor are they interested in a "straight swap" of Omaynt's for Zolder's. It's been the one niggling thing about the deal as any negotated "discount" is well and truly wiped out on paying for them. If I get the Zolder's I like the idea of arranging a changover of wheels though the dealer (aside form the fact that they are new) as they can supply the car out of the box without me fiddling around with wheel and tyre swaps/shipping them to the East/putting the car on blocks etc, especially given that the wait for the car is already painful and in any event, it looks like March before I get delivery. The Omaynt's could then be sold/kept for spares/a change, etc. Perhaps I need to squeeze the dealer a bit more on price? Anyone else have a view?

You can get good quality replicas of the Zolders. I'm taking the originals off my car, and putting on some Work Emotions (I had OZs on order but the Works are cheaper, just as light and there are a lot of Ultraleggeras about now)
Piccie of the Works:
I have to keep the Zolders though due to the lease. I think Rany at ABI does the replicas as do a few of the UK guys and Raderwerks in the US.

theres a bloke 2 doors up with an r32 sitting on 19s, hes had 3 different wheels on there in 3 months so im guessing he might have his laying around? anyway ill ask him if i ever meet him, sounds like theres no hurry if the car is still a long way off
the only trouble with replicas is they're heavier right? and i think the r32 is identified by its whole presence, the wheels are just part of the package. if you're rolling down the road with 10" wide wheels on the rear you'll have much more presence anyway hehe.

The Omanyts are supposed to be not too bad weightwise. (According to the MKV R32 boys on the 'tex - mind you they think the R32 didn't exist before it arrived in the US in the last couple of months - much the same way as they think World War II began in December 1941).
I'll weigh mine when I get them off the car (without tyres), and you can get a comparison weight from the 'tex.

I reckon those new wheels look the biz (i've forgotten what they are called already!) as a plus it will define your R32 as a new model, which people will notice. If you are going to go to the effort of changing rims, I'd go aftermarket and get something completely different that will defiantly make you stand out a bit,.
I reckon stick with the new wheels and look at some other mods maybe (if you're into that kinda thing) I'd be looking at a chip, CAI and exhaust to open up a few more neddiesThis will also make it sound even meaner!
Coilovers are also good if you really want to get stuck into the twisty's; but I'm sure the stock set up will be fine for now.

The dealer can do the Zolder's for $620 a corner (not $770). It's still a fair chunk of dough. I'm a fan of the Superleggra's but they seem to be the aftermarket wheel of choice for the R32 (with good reason!). I like the OZ Superturismo GT or the BBS CK (polished or silver) or the RXII as an alternative.

hey guys, love the forum.
looking at purchasing either a gti or r32 in the next few weeks.
i know theres not much different with the gti 08 (mp3 etc.) but what differences with the r32 08? i saw new wheels and someone mentioned large display? i looked on the american website, all new colours...are they all coming to aus? i'm really keen on the white, possibly red???
any help much appreciated.

jlbro - the 08 still comes in the same 4 colours as the previous model. One other difference is the multi function display in the dashboard is bigger and has (i think) a few more functions. This seems to amount to more control over the way you can configure the central locking, lights, indicator operation and a few other convenience items. mp3 player is pretty good for convenience if not sound quality if you are into that...
