Any of you guys with MKV GTIs or TFSI Jetta or Eos care to comment on your oil consumption or know what VW term "acceptable"?

    Cheers

I topped up my 2007 Jetta TFSI with 0.5L oil after the first thousand km, then around 0.25L after the 2nd thousand km.

Will be interesting to see how much is required after 3rd thousand km (hopefully none)

For those interested, I just did my third oil top up at 5000km - only need to add 300ml of oil (after the last top up at 2000km). Good to see the oil usage falling.

I'm up to 6800km, so far I've used about 300ml.

            jetta 2.0fsi turbo with 10000ks

bought this vehicle as a dealer demo they told me it had been checked through the work shop when picked up done 4000ks since and the oil light on the dash has come on it took a 1and1/2lts, no one in sales dept told me that the recommended oil usage on these things can be up to 1lt per 1000ks thats about $20.00 of oil 2 tanks of fuel with there recomended oil. Also built a few engines myself for ski boats and not one uses any oil. the car should be advertised as a 2stroke. If the dealer doesn't want to do anything about this problem, i will have the engined pulled down and see if the tolernces are ok on the rings and bearings and if not i,ll be sending the bill to the dealer. i'm sure the tolernces will be out as no engine with under 100,thousand on it should use this amount

It seems to me that a lot of VW engines use oil during running in period as you can expect from any new engine. You can expect that up to 15,000km engine will use more than what you would think is normal. We have done 7,000km on Golf5 TDi and didn't top up any oil yet. After 200 km since new I was driving it as it was run in. Many people probably drive to gently and running in process may take longer or for ever.
I think if you would pull that engine down that you find that tolerances are "ok" and it could have glazed cylinder walls - but very unlikely.

                  Folks,

I know this thread is about the TFSI Jetta's but for what it's worth my TDi used about 500ml in the 1st 6,000km.
No further top ups until the regular service at 15,000km.
Just had the 30,000km service done and NO top ups between the services. The oil level on the dipstick just prior to the 30k service had only dropped about 1mm since the 15k service!

I'm guessing that I ran it in OK!

Cheers but keep an eye on the oil,

                  Neil.

Check the intercooler and also crankcase PCV hose from rocker cover for excesive oil in it, turbocharger can also suck the oil in from engine.

I bought my TDI in Feb'07 and used 1 litre if oil in 15000km.
Since first service I haven't' topped it up, but I bought 5L of Castrol Edge just in case ( paid 29.95 at cheap auto).
It is running just fine with me pushing it to 4000rpm every now then of the traffic lights. Sometime I hold it in third on about 70km.....

                        Hi mate,
Castrol 5w-30edge is wrong oil for GolfV Tdi, here is the link:

Just in case that you want to use Castrol Edge as complete fill for oil change - it is wrong oil to use.(i wouldn't use it even as a top up, but that's only me)
                        Cheers.

Just went and checked my Jun 07 TFSI, now with 3000kms on the clock.

Still zero oil usage since new.

The 1st 4000km saw the low oil light come on.... I now know how to check it Why do they have a black dipstick for black oil

Then there was no obvious oil use until about 12,000km and it started to drop again but this time when it nearly got to minimum (no light) I got the local dealer (not the one that sold us the car either) to top it up again on Thursday last week (6/12) again for free. The car gets serviced for the 1st time on this Wednesday (12/12) at 14,000km.

The car gets driven firmly once warmed up but most driving is short distance... The oil probably drops as a result of the occasional longer drive where the crap evaporates off.

Mate, I've got it cleared up.
                                Regarding the links you pasted.

You forgot to check that Castrol Edge in Europe is VW50400/50700 oil and in here is not.
Generally speaking AU made lubricants are less quality.

And I'm sory, but if the oil does't have the right specs you can't use it not even for the top ups.

                                Here is why.
How much of oil you top up? Is it 1L or 2L and secon top up 1L or more - how many top ups you would do? You would end up driving on wrong oil. It is common sense isn't it.

I buy right oil with right specs written on label on the bottle -$30.00 more for oil, if you buy from the dealer is well worth it as I know it will not harm the engine What is $30.00 compared to $40,000 or more for our cars.
I buy oil from the dealer in boxes, so I keep stock of oil for my rides.

Always read the label and follow it to the last dot you can save yourself a lot of money.

                                Cheers.
