call your service place, you will probably find that none of the aussie 140hp diesels have DPF's... if you're dealer said it has one, hes most likely telling stories. if it had one, im guessing the soot you had problems with would have been caught in the dpf and you would have gotten the dpf warning light as i have had 2ce in 1 week. who'd you get your car from btw?

Some Fuchs oils are made in Germany but be careful the label has to read VW 504.00-VW507.00 approved ( not just meet VW 504.00 - VW 507.00. Since it is not the same as approved by VW for 504.00 – 507.00)
I personally regard any oil made in Europe as far better than these made in OZ. In Europe in order to meet Euro5 emissions car manufacturers are demanding better oils for they highly fuel efficient engines.
In Australia we are behind Europe in controlling pollutions. And when finally emission law is tightened there is no authority to check if the vehicles comply.
So oil companies here are run free business with producing oils which don't have to comply tight environmental protection laws.
Car manufacturers in Europe have better control over what oils are used in their vehicles and there is less independent repairers.

        It is not.
I would contact VW in germany. Reporting that dealer that they use not approved oil and ruining my car. n:

          Just to be certain....

How can you tell if there is a DPF on the car?

Correct oil for TDi with DPF 2007-on

If don't have DPF you can use VW 507.00 or VW 506.01
Later one protects engine better (my opinion).

If your car is made 2006 it shouldn't have DPF.

Diesel particle filter would be plumbed in the exhaust system in series and would cylindrical shape with two sensor plumbed in one in the front one at the back.

Our GolfV 2.0TDi has BKD engine and has no DPF.
Here is the link to downloadable magazine on page 47 is a picture of DPF and description how it works, also on page 41 is picture of VW 2.0L TDi PD with DPF showing (cut out in DPF showing the sintered metal heating element)

                I'll agree with that.

506.01 supposedly has some special additives to provide better wear resistance for cams and followers (compared to 507.00).

I wouldn't be surprised if this particular oil gets hard to obtain (there is a shortage of the special additive or something). If you really want to use this it may be worth laying in a year or two's supply. When I took my Transporter in for an oil change they tried to tell me they couldn't do it as they had no 506.01 oil in stock (mine has a DPF so uses 507.00)

507.00 is low SAPS to prevent fouling of the DPF if your engine happens to be one of those VW motors that burns a bit of engine oil. If you have a DPF VW say you must use 507.00 (even in the R5 motor).

This is nice to know because I have never looked at it that way.
Now back to DPF.... My Golf has 07 plate but I order it in Dec '06. Does this mean that it has DPF or should I lay underneath and look for it

                  Edit
It doesn't have DPF, built date Aug '06 compliance plate 2007.

I am curious how long DPF lasts and does it need replacement?
If so than thats is extra cost that i don't need.

Based on this fact, and owners manual, I need 505.01 which is what MRL T5 posted.

I would use VW 507.00 oil since it is newer oil by specs and it doesn't matter if you have DPF or not. It is 5W-30 it flows better and it gives you better fuel economy. VW 505.01 is 5W-40.

read this post with interest as we are taking delivery of a Jetta Turbo in mid Feb.
I was told to expect oil consumption in VW motors. Dealership told me that there is an allowable amount for each type of engine and as long as it is not using more than that figure then its within spec. I believe it is to do with fuel economy. The looser the rings the less power used to move them in the cylinder etc. but the more oil that will pass through them.
VW not the only one to have issues.
For those that remember the Holden problems with the Gen3 V8. This had the same issues... massive amounts of oil usage between servicing. allowable amount on this engine was apparantly around 3.5 litres for 10,000k's. Think the sump held around 5 litres. other issue with rings that are too small is piston slap - slight knocking noise in motor.

will have to keep an eye on mine when i get it.

Try asking your dealer what is an "acceptable amount of oil use". He will probably tell you 1 litre per 1,000Km !!!!!!!!!!! (that seems to be the official VW line). I personally believe that anything over 1l/10,000Km is on the high side. My R5 motor has had no measurable oil usage over two oil changes at 7,500 and 15,000km, and this is common. Some VW motors do use a bit of oil during the first 10,000km, but generally settle down after that. So check your engine oil level regularly, especially on trips.

General consensus seems to be to drive your engine with a fair bit of accelarator when running in to help the rings bed in properly rather than glaze over. Glazed rings usually use more oil. Vary your engine revs for at least the first 1,000Km (no cruise control). Try the search function to find several threads on proper running in procedure/s.

Good luck with your Jetta, I'm sure you'll love it.

thanks... i hope we love it too. have had great experiences with previous vdubs in the family (2003 NB Cabrio & Polo GTI) so hoping this one is no exception.
dealership would not elaborate on "acceptable amount of oil use" even when i pushed the question several times.. he probably didn't know anyways..
i know they are more likely to use oil in the run in period and have seen that with other cars also. Some even use two grades of oil - one during run in and then another after run in.
                          fingers crossed.

just had 15000 service $326.00 later for an oil change and check and also was told not to use ant other oil except vw brand as i had purchased mobile 1 as oil company specifies for this model will be taking to my mechanic in future as i think this price is excessive as the oil and filter total was under 100.00 dollars and we will see if it is still using oil as it used a litre and a quarter in from 10,000 to 14,000 and then toped up with mobil1 and has used any up to 15000 so we will see if vw oil drops

                              Pardon?

Are you saying the dealer refused to use the Mobil1 oil you supplied? If so, what weight Mobil1 did you supply for the oil change?
