Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. Been noticing an issue with the transmission recently with my 2007 R32 (53,000km). As I am driving, the dsg would go into flashing PRND and lose drive (neutral). I would then have to shift back to N and then back to D and M mode before it engages a gear again. The first time it happened was around october last year, and probably happens once a month. In the past week, it has happened at least once a day and sometimes twice in the same trip. The check engine light has also come on when this happens.
A scan of the code reveals the following:
28775 - No Communication with Gear Selector Module
    U0103 - 000 - - - Intermittent - MIL ON
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 10100000
    Fault Priority: 0
    Reset counter: 40
    Mileage: 52888 km
    Time Indication: 0

Otherwise the dssg drives normal (afaik), with no jerkyness or noticeable worsening of the gear change.

Anyone experience similar issues? One guy from the dealership mentioned that a battery on the way out may cause strange electrical issues.

My R32 has 51,000km and never witnessed that sort of a problem.

Although, I do have a constant noise everytime it goes into 6th gear... sometimes a loud bang upon ignition as well..

Dont wait till it goes get a good independent VW service center to run a Diagnostic over the DSG , i had the same problem after going and getting a service at Camden GTI The mechanic showed me all the fault codes in the DSG gearbox .
He personally rang Barlo and told the foreman and when i went there they tried to say it just needed a upgraded software but after the second time even sending the readings to Germany i wrote directly to VWA and explained the situation ,and surprise surprise i got a phone call from them saying my metrotronics unit was being delivered next day and its now booked in on the 30/3

Well after 52,000km on my R32 and after swearing that no such problem plagued my little dsg, a small issue has now arisen. At idle the dsg has developed a clutch rattle. No big deal maybe but my independent german auto mechanic says i should get it looked at while its still uner warranty. Probelm is its an alliance vw extended warranty. Im sure they will try to dodge the issue. Oh well will give it a go.

my view is they are avoiding any admission that there are any issues. I wonder how many reported cases does it take to force them to issue a recall. eg. if I collect all the mechatronic replacements (in or out of warranty) in various forums and submit them to the ACCC. Smart thing (and the cheapest) option for them is to offer 100% goodwill replacement on mechatronic unit as problem arise. If they don't, I can see more and more unhappy campers like myself who are just out of warranty and them having the audacity to show me a quote.

Well, after a month of fighting my case, they have now agreed to cover 100% of the repair. It's hard work being a vw customer.

I'm glad your persistence paid off and saved you a heap of cash ,and mine was under warranty and now i have 2 years on the replacement gearbox which is about 9 months after the warranty expires.

yup.. my persistence included ACCC and office of fair trading.. so they have not been very forthcoming. I am still considering collecting people's issue with the dsg/ machatronic whether in or our of warranty and try to force a recall program.

                              What issue are you experiencing?

One big tip: when you take the car in for them to investigate, did they include the investigation in the invoice when you pick up the car? Keep those paper work, they will come in handy if and when your car develops a "real" issue after warranty expires. It proves that there may have been a pre-existing issue with the car that they are failing to diagnose.
