After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi all, Ive got a Golf GTI and I've recently been having similar symptoms to those described above. From a standing start, once the brake is released (particularly on a hill), I get a small shudder and revs drop, jerking (feeling like its almost going to stall) then it picks up and goes as normal. Even when braking hard and the gearbox reaches back to 1st gear, the shudder again occurs.

I took the liberty of having my DSG serviced today (at A&B Automatics), and the shudder has practically been eliminated! DSG oil and filter changed, vagcom checked etc.. Not sure if this will help all of you, but certainly something to look into.

Nabz, how much was the service at A&B?
I rang yesterday to make an apointment for my 60k and haven't received a call back yet.

Good guys? James from Audvolks recomended them for the service so I would assume so.

The 30k service does not include a DSG oil change unless you specifically request it. Also, if you went to a VW dealer for your service they would have slugged you $750 ontop of your regular service for a DSG oil change. Just make sure that the DSG oil has in fact been changed. I just drove home from work and almost fell asleep coz the ride was so smooth!

Hey mate, I was also recommended to A&B by James from Audvolks.. Ive been going there for a long time and I live on the other side of town, so they are great for me!! Good people both at Audvolks and A&B. To my knowledge, A&B are the official specialists for VW/Audi DSG transmission in Victoria.. so you have nothing to worry about in terms of quality. They even have the letter framed from the VW auditors on their reception counter stating so. They are also official specialists for Subaru, Jeep and a couple other companies.

I had my car serviced at Audvolks on Wednesday, and then my DSG serviced at A&B on Thursday. I paid $200 for my DSG oil change, but I supplied the DSG oil, filter, O-ring and washers. I think he quoted me $450-500 if they were to supply the materials.. so i went online and bought the complete DSG oil change kit for about $200USD ($142 + delivery) from ECS Tuning. So all up it cost me about $420AUD.

According to the guys at A&B, its a 3 hour job which includes the oil change, a full diagnostic of the DSG + printout, and they even threw in a quick car wash which was a nice gesture (either that, or they thought my car was filthy).

My car only used 4lt of the oil but the kit I bought came with 6lt. If you want, you can have the other 2lt for $30 to get you started, or you can buy it elsewhere for $20/litre minimum..

Good luck and let us know how you go.

              DSG Reputation

[QUOTE=Maverick;482378]Are you saying that all DSG boxes have this fault? Because if so you're way off the mark.

Obviously the DSG is suffering from image problems, whether it is perception or reality remains to be seen.

In the USA VW has extended the DSG warranty to 10 Years or 160,000 km. on 2007-2010 vehicles.

I am sure this is not happening out of the goodness of their hearts as US new car warranties are generally pretty ordinary.

The extended factory warranty (at no extra charge) is obviously designed to engender some consumer confidence in the DSG and something must be happening in real life to FORCE VW into this position.

I love the DSG in both our Golf and CC but I hope they long term marriages not punctuated by two many affairs whilst the DSG leaves us to live with the dealer.

I am not filled with confidence.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

Excellent, thanks Nabz! James also mentioned to me that they look after all of Audi and VW's auto/DSG transmissions so they must be good. Pretty reasonable prices also.
Might just get the kit myself. Would hate to get out there and they tell me I need more DSG oil.

Will order off ECS and make an appointment with Grant at A&B.

                Appreciate the advice!

Why don't you just put your foot on the brake?

Whilst I'm sure there are real failures out there, most of what I have read seems like people treat the DSGs like autos, and not the automated manuals that they really are.

VW dealers charge around $400 for a DSG oil and filter change. I have no idea where you're getting your $750 from.

The gearbox holds ~5.5 litres so where is the other 1.5 litres?

.5 to .75 litres of new oil is lost when you drain the excess off by running through the gears so you only have 3.25 to 3.5 litres of new oil in the gearbox out of 5.5 litres.

And Toyota are recalling cars because stupid people can't tell the difference between the accelerator and brake pedals

here's a question whilst on the topic does a vw dealer selling a second hand dsg equipped vw have to supply a warranty on the dsg itself? been looking at getting a second hand r32 with 50k on the clock but they only offer warranty for 3 years not the dsg itself until 100k
