Got around to making the exhaust yesterday. Driving up to my mates shop header only was so dumb. I’ve had some straight piped cars before, but nothing like the outlet being underneath your feet, with a few missing grommets to boot. Short 15 minute drive left me with ringing ears and a bit of a headache to start the day with.

I forgot to take photos during. But got the finished product.

And an alloy rear section to drop the ~12kg muffler section for track days

This morning I cracked into the ‘toe correcting’ rear trailing arm bushes.

Was a bit to hot to remember to take photos but was a fairly straight forward process in the end. Except for one bushing needing a quick visit to the freezer.
Meant to give 0.5+ toe but I forgot to take notice/measure the stock bushings before hand. I used the Powerflex Black series bushings. They are making a touch of noise on first drive, will leave them to settle and see if they quite down or will need to chuck a bit more grease between them and the bracket.

          • I have long wanted to feel what it’s like driving a car with a weighted shift knob. But because the car isn’t up to a show standard I didn’t want to spend the $250 on a nice BFI one. So cheaped out on this ‘Ktuned’ via eBay shifter extension/weighted knob for the small fortune price of $20.

Now if the car had a standard throw shifter mechanism on it, it would be atrocious. But with the Neuspeed shifter it isn’t too bad, there is a bit of wobble because of the height and weight of the knob, but makes banging gears a whole lot easier! With a super short/notchy diesel geek shifter this setup would be ideal imo.

            • Nice. Is the shank diameter of OE gear stick the same as on the 1.8T 20V cars Hayden. Reckon that would fit the Golf 4/Polo 9N3 too?

Yeah it’ll be the same diameter as R32.

The shifter came with a variety of adapters, one would work with the VW shifter if you ran a dye over it to thread it. I have for now just used the grub screws included with loctite and no adapter. It’s tight and so far no issues but time will tell if the grub screws back out or not.

                • Exhaust is schmickkkk dude.

Also love the shifter setup, that was my intention as well as its all adjustable and looks pretty sweet. Try a skunk2 weighted knob with that shifter combo, feels real good. Also the DG shift kit will REALLY improve things too, cant recommend it highly enough.

Thanks George! Sounds pretty good for a 24v.

This knob is a hefty 350g, something a tad lighter might be better. But for now I’ll get used to it. Pretty handy arm rest.

                    • Racecar fridays!

Still a suitable vehicle to get to work and back.

                      • A few more drives on it, and sorting out a few teething issues. The new O2’s didn’t work at all (crap eBay stuff) so swapped out the other day and all working good again.

Having a ‘dead’ or heavy spot sometimes in the steering at low RPM’s, I’m thinking it’s because of the mismatched pulley setup I have going on, small crank pulley and smaller than oem power steering pulley. Not a massive issue, just need to blip throttle when reverse parking.

Otherwise. It’s pretty tight, gone through some local twisties with more than normal comfort pace and it didn’t step out/understeer at all. Pretty keen to see how it goes on a track!

                        • Was it 8kg/mm fronts and 10kg/mm rears you went with? Have you stuck with them or gone to different rates in the end?

                            7kg/11kg - Front/Rear

Front bar on stiff, rear bar on soft.

It’s good actually, better than the FK’s, despite having twice the spring rate in the back.

Doesn’t have that harsh impact when hitting bumps like most coilovers I have experienced which is nice.
