  • Competed in my first Hillclimb today and to good result. Ended up overall around 4th or 5th i think out of 57 which i was stoked with. I was beaten by what appeared to be a race/rally setup wrx, clubman on slicks and R32 GTR that was balistic. The bora handled the punishment without missing a beat. 19psi all day and 4 - 5k rpm launches saw it getting off the line well, i think my first sector times were consistently about 3rd or 4th quickest all day.

From this i know my suspension is definitely far too soft, R32 golf suspension although firmer that stock, it just isn't enough for compeditive events. I'd also love a haldex controller as well as a rear LSD... if only the wallet agreed . Better tires would be a great help too especially at the top of the course where it has multiple hairpins in a switch back arrangement which is all in 1st gear. Basically through these sections i was just burning rubber usually 1 front and 1 rear tyre or sometimes all 4 in a big awd drift

The car handled everything beautifully and it certainly grabbed a huge amount of attention from the crowd, so many people couldn't believe a VW Bora was tearing up the hill so quickly! Love the surprise factor

I've got plenty of video all High Definition from both inside and outside the car at different parts of the track which i'll complile, compress and put up soon

    • Cant say I like the Angel lights, leave them for the BM I think. Haldex Controller will make a big difference especially if you get the comp controller.

I agree, R32 suspension isn't upto the task of real track stuff have you lightened the bora at all ? It would be good to remove the rear seats, doesnt take long in the boras ! I think weight is the main enemy here.

                        • great stuff go the bora, she gets off the line really well and seem to have plenty of grip from the clutch. I couldnt dream of dumping mine that hard. I've been debating the single mass flywheel, sounds like there is a bit of chatter at idle, how do you find it?

the tow bar is a nice touch

                          • Impressive biuld, however seems a walk in the park compared to some of your builds in the past I have read, such as taking a fwd car and making it awd turbo... P: Time for me to trade in the pulsar.....

                              • So long time no update! That said i rarely get on the forums at the moment due to other commitments.

Anyway not much has changed at all really but i did chuck it on a 4wd dyno at a recent dyno day here in Adelaide. What i found surprising is that there is really bugger all difference between the power output in AWD and FWD. The Graph below has the AWD run in RED and the FWD run in Blue.

I suppose realistically when the fuse is pulled and the car's in FWD the transfer case, tailshaft and some of the haldex componentry is still spinning thus the only extra losses in AWD would be from rolling resistance of the rear tires + the rear diff and haldex components.

I was hoping to run more boost however i'm having some issues with either getting my boost controller tuned in right or the wastegate spring seems to be failing as can be noted by the gradual boost fall off. Either way i've been content with the power output so havent really bothered to tweak anything lately! Was interesting this time on the dyno as the torque hits so hard we had to re-strap the car down several times to prevent it wheelspinning

                                Cheers,
                                Rob
