  • Why? The battery is in the boot. Just running the line straight to it, so doesn't really matter where I put it.

    • Hmmm I thought the shorter the connect to important fuses like that the better? Maybe wrong though

That's a classic mistake - you need a fuse at the battery
If the heavy wire to the fuse box ever get's cut or shorted it has access to a few hundred amps
I've heard stories from auto electricians about the long wire to the fuse box glowing red and sparking and starting a fire

        • Good point. Guess we could put another fuse at the battery?

          • Put a battery master switch in but NOT a fuse or circuit breaker ....
Otherwise your introducing something else to go wrong ....
KISS... Keep it simple Simon ...

EDIT: Actually, I have NFI how many amps the starter draws.

We have power! Zale and I managed to wire up the battery, killswitch and circuit breaker. Mounted the battery where the factory 6 stacker used to sit. So happy with how it turned out. Circuit breaker is hidden in the first aid cupboard. Got to see the full face R32 cluster in action. Has only done 14,000km and it's all I'm German haha. Bumper is mounted properly. Have had to cut a fair bit out of it, so can't even run my two side lower grills. Will be getting a Bora R kit for it, as it will give me more room to work with.

                        • Very neat .... But !!
starter motor will draw many more amps than 125.... If you do a search you'll see measurements ranging from 150 to 300 plus... When the circuit breaker trips your effectively disconnecting the battery and that will mean any device that uses a permanent 12v supply to maintain memories - radios, ecu, etc will be reset and require re tuning .... Remember that once the engine is running the battery is only a storage point as the alternator effectively supplies the required current and a circuit breaker as you fitted won't interrupt that circuit so you still have lots of volts being produced...
The longer run of battery cable is also increasing the resistance and with an extra 4 joints in the circuit your just adding to the problem...
In this case simpler is much better and reliable ....

To be honest, I don't think it will be a problem considering that it is a low-compression engine and the fact that the start motor doesn't run for very long.

Thanks though. Will see how we go!

A small dry cell battery. Can't remember the brand. "Odyssey", maybe?
