Solid weekend working on it, although ran into a few problems. So, not as much progress as I would have liked.
Cut down the exhaust manifold heat shield to fit over the turbo and some (lol) of the wastegate. Gave it a quick coat of Caliper paint.
Made up the water feed line for the turbo.
Fitted boost piping, which was going without drama's until we got to the piece that runs up behind the radiator on the passenger side and into the throttle body. Had problems with getting it to fit with the top and bottom radiator hoses. Modified both hoses, but still didn't give enough clearance. Ended up having to use a bit of scrap 45 degree tubing that we had laying around. Gave it a coat of paint so it looked the part. Not sure what we are going to do with this though, as not 100% happy with the fit, and the fact that this piece of pipe doesn't have a rolled edge, so could pop off under boost.
Cut the oil lines for the cooler to size and bolted them up.
Small miscellaneous things like moving the power steering bottle to clear boost piping, vacuum lines to intake manifold, notice my Audi R8 coolant and oil caps
Rad support and reo bar bolted up for now, but not sure if they will need to come back off again.
Things left to do:
Wiring harness for rear 044 Fuel Pump
Wiring harness for ignition
Water return to turbo
Battery relocation to boot
Small amount of trimming out of front bumper to clear intercooler and oil cooler
BOOOOOOOOOST!
Will leave it as is for now, see how much attention I get from your mates in blue
Will eventually go with a BMC CDA air box though and run the intake down into the guard like a carbonio intake.
Nope no more dress up items, very happy with how it has turned out. Photos don't do it justice. Had a play with the stock V6 engine cover and should be able to get it to fit, like Rob has on his turbo Bora. Will look pretty factory!
Diverter valve/Blow off valve bolted up. Boost piping finally finished. Rad support and reo bar bolted up properly. Misc plugs fixed up and plugged in. Headlights bolted up. Water feed to turbo hooked up. Stock engine cover modified to fit on R32 engine and HPA manifold, still need to figure out how to mount it though. Filled with water, no leaks. Gearbox oil filled. Clutch bled (clutch not as heavy as I was expecting from a Stage 5, which is good) Power steering filled with fluid, but then drained again, as pump is leaking from it's push in fitting. Battery lines run through firewall, interior and into boot for battery relocation. Catch can mounted and line ran to it, fixed the leaking power steering pump and refilled fluid, filled engine with oil, and started cutting bar and grills to fit over cooler piping. Still aiming for nationals.
Trying to decide what I should put on the passenger side inner wheel arch to cover the burnt paint. Maybe a small windscreen washer bottle? Charcoal canister?
im guessing i missed a post, is the burn mark from a weld job?
Nope, burn mark is from the tyres on my BMW wheels rubbing on the body
Burn is on both sides, although the drivers side is covered by the coolant bottle.
hahahaha, thats a story for the grandkids if i ever heard one.
If your pod sat back towards the firewall a bit more, id suggest you create a box for it, which would start right where you want it covered up. Otherwise, you could mount the catch there, but it would stick out like dogs balls.. Need any fuse relocation?
Or mask and paint just the arch. Shouldnt be much of a job.
